Seven clubs featured in Scór na nOg semi-finals

INCH HALL was the venue for the Enniscorth­y and Gorey Districts Scór na nÓg semi-final recently.

There was a very large attendance with seven clubs taking part - Naomh Eanna, St. Patrick’s (Ballyought­er), Cloughbawn, Oulart-The Ballagh, Tara Rocks, Castletown-Liam Mellows and Réalt na Mara-Ballygarre­tt.

The first competitio­n was the figure dancing. There were four groups in total, three from Naomh Eanna and one from Cloughbawn.

All four groups qualified for the county final as there were no figure dancing entries at the Wexford/ New Ross District competitio­n the previous night.

The next competitio­n was the solo singing. There were seven competitor­s in total: Bridget Con- nors, Siofra O’Donohoe, Ruby Farrell and Holly Nolan, all from Naomh Eanna, plus Katie O’Leary (St. Patrick’s), Charlie Maloney (Castletown) Cormac Cooper (Cloughbawn), with Cormac and Ruby qualifying for the county final.

The set dancing competitio­n was next with two groups competing, one from St. Patrick’s and one from Naomh Eanna. Both groups qualified for the county final.

We then had the recitation competitio­n with four competitor­s. Naomh Eanna were represente­d by Ilijana Chudzik Durkin, Katie Doran and Ruby Farrell. Aoibhinn Cooper represente­d Cloughbawn and qualified for the county final together with Ruby Farrell from Naomh Eanna.

There were ten ballad groups in total, seven from Naomh Eanna, one from Cloughbawn and two from St. Patrick’s. The two successful groups were from Cloughbawn and Naomh Eanna.

Eight groups competed in the instrument­al music competitio­n, three from Ballygarre­tt, four from Naomh Eanna and one from Oulart-The Ballagh. One group from Ballygarre­tt and one group from Naomh Eanna both won a place in the county final.

The Scór Chairperso­n, Áine Kennedy, thanked all those involved in making the night a success - the local club Castletown, adjudicato­rs, parents and most importantl­y competitor­s. She also thanked Breda Jacob for acting as Bean an Tí.
