ST. JOSEPH’S LUCAN PRES WEXFORD 0 4

TWO goals apiece from Niamh Tormey and Fiona Kinsella saw Presentation Wexford’s senior soccer side advance to the semi-final of the Bank of Ireland Leinster ‘A’ Cup.

In cold conditions, the Wexford side were the first to get into the heat of the game with early chances for Kinsella and midfield partner Lauren McLoughlin.

St. Joseph’s, who boast Under-17 Irish international and Peamount United starlet Aoife Brophy in their ranks, couldn’t get enough regular supply to their main goal threat, with Ciara Bridges patrolling superbly in midfield.

Pres Wexford opened the scoring on the 20-minute mark after good work from Tormey in midfield set Kinsella in on goal.

The attacker showed a great turn of pace to break beyond the Joseph’s back line and slip the ball past the advancing goalkeeper.

Five minutes later Presentation doubled their advantage. This time Kinsella turned provider for Tormey who applied a cool finish to send her side into the half-time break two to the good.

St. Joseph’s started the second-half strongly and created a couple of half-chances but found Chloe Mythen and Aoife Burke in good form at the heart of the Wexford defence.

Kinsella’s pace was proving a thorn in Lucan’s side all afternoon and she got her second 15 minutes into the second-half after racing in on goal.

Tormey capped off an excellent display from the away team with her side’s fourth with ten minutes left, despite the best efforts of the St. Joseph’s netminder.

Presentation now await the outcome of the quarter-final between Coláiste Bríde (Enniscorthy) and Ratoath College (Meath) to see who they will face in the last four.

Presentation Wexford: Niamh Kehoe, Abi Devereux (Aoife Houghton, 45), Aoife Burke, Chloe Mythen (capt.), Jamie Devereux, Ciara Bridges, Niamh Tormey, Fiona Kinsella (Maria Tapial, 40), Lauren McLoughlin (Rachael Crosbie, 50), Aisling O’Sullivan (Eleanor Hammel, 20), Emma McMahon.
