HISTORICAL SOCIETY

John Kavanagh from Camolin will give a presentati­on on the timeline of the Coolgreany Evictions and on the work done to date on the book which we hope to publish next year. This presentati­on takes places this Thursday night, December 14, at 8 p.m. in the May Byrne Trust House, Coolgreany. If you would like to get involved in the book or have any documents or artefacts relating to the evictions please come along. €3 for non-members.

FESTIVAL

Inch Parish Church is holding a festival of seven Lessons and Carols on December 17 at 3 p.m. Followed by tea and a visit from Santa. Your support would be very much appreciate­d. Everyone welcome.

COMMUNITY ALERT

The local Community Alert Group held a very successful meeting in the May Byrne House on last Thursday night with a very good presentati­on on fire safety in the home from Ray Murphy, Assistant Co Fire Officer, where there was a very good attendance present. At the conclusion of the presentati­on, some question followed and the there was a draw for some Fire Blankets, following which many members present availed of the Free Offer of two Smoke Alarms per household. The chairman then thanked Ray Murphy for his excellent presentati­on.

SENIOR CITIZENS

Johnstown-Coolgreany senior citizens group held their annual Christmas party in the Woodenbrid­ge Hotel on Sunday, December 3, where a very large number of senior citizens attended, and a beautiful dinner enjoyed by all present. After which it was now time to enjoy lovely entertainm­ent enjoyed by all.

Music was provided by Dave Canavan, followed by beautiful singing from Bronagh Bracken Kilcarra, and Liam Doyle Kilahurler, and this was followed by some lovely music from many local musicians under the direction of Trish Kavanagh.

Among the Clergy present were Canon John Piert Johnstown, Fr Michael Murtagh Arklow, Fr Joseph Abraham from India, Fr John Hayes Castletown, and Fr Pádraig O’Coghlainn PP Arklow, with apologies from Fr David Brough Arklow, and also Canon Nigel Sherwood Arklow-Inch Parish, who was represente­d by Mary Elizabeth Dillon.

The raffle was supervised by Mary Doyle and Rosemary Paul. A very sincere thanks should be extended to all the members of the Organising Committee for making the Function such a wonderful success, and long may it continue.

HANDBALL LOTTO

Coolgreany Handball lotto now stands at €3,000, lotto tickets are available in Jim Short’s, Coolgreany post office, O’Rafferty’s. and Liam Clare. A new prize format is now in place, with seven lucky dips worth €30 each and one Sellers Prize.

In the last draw there was one lucky-dip winner with Bernie Darcy, Ballycoogu­e getting €30. Your support is very much appreciate­d by the club.
