The Christmas Tree at Boolavogue Grotto was blessed by Fr Gahan on Friday last, December 15, immediately after Boolavogue NS closed. Sourced by Olive Burke and erected by Christy Whelan, Senator Séamus Burke performed the official ‘switch on’ of the Christmas lights. In a very short speech he explained to the assembled schoolchildren that the Grotto was just over 64 years old and at its opening, Fr Carton from Camolin preached for so long that the curate in Boolavogue, Fr Allen, got him to cut his sermon short, and he was not going to make the same mistake.

SOCCER NEWS

On Sunday, December 17, the Men’s ‘B’ team were away to Enniscorthy town and shared the points thanks to a 2-2 draw. James Sweeney and Dean Fortune were the men on target.

The previous day, the Youths’ team rescued what might have been a disaster and came back to draw 3-3 with Cloughbawn. This result, the second time they have drawn with Cloughbawn, leaves them topping the table having won six games and drawn two. Jamie Dempsey-Doyle brought them back level after Cloughbawn had taken an early lead, scoring from the penalty spot. Cloughbawn went ahead once again to lead 1-2 at the break. Harry Ellix made it 2-2 early in the secon half and even though our lads seemed to dominate, they could not pull ahead. A penalty saw Cloughbawn pull 2-3 ahead but Pádraig Moran carved through their defence to make it 3-3.

The same day the under-14 girls were away to Bree United. Goals from Emerson Doran (3), Bronagh Kenny (1) and Jessica Foran (1) saw them collect the points. Collette Mythen in goal kept a clean sheet and Eva Corrigan, Michaela Milling, Katie Burke and Sophie Kirwin starred.
