SOCCER NEWS
On Saturday, January 6, the Youths’ team were in action away to Kilmore in a cup clash. Thanks to two goals from Nathan Dickson sandwiching a Shay Hayes screamer, they lead by 3-0 at the break. Facing into a very strong wind, they were under pressure near the end when Kilmore drew within a goal of them. Ryan Milling, connecting on a great pass from Jack White, gave us a two goal cushion 10 minutes from time and Jack Whelan made it 5-2 with the last kick of the game.
The following day, the ladies’ team were away to Cushinstown and won by 3-1. Lorraine Fortune scored twice and Noelle Joran got the third while Éinín Rossiter and Ciara Larkin were the star players.
The Men’s ‘B’ squad also won, beating Stoney Rovers 4-2 away. Mark Walsh got two while Dean Fortune and Liam Walsh added the others.
Playing at home, the Men’s ‘A’ team had their worst result of the season. Up against Rosslare Rangers ‘B’ squad in the Wexford Cup, they lost by 1-2. They might have been two up at the break but could not finish some good moves and early in the second half, the visitors went 1-0 ahead. Seán Roche equalised but Rosslare deservedly pulled 2-1 ahead near the end.
