New chairperson is selected for Gorey Tidy Towns

- By SARA GAHAN

After six successful years Liz Kenny has decided to step down as chairperson for Gorey Tidy Towns.

She announced her decision during last week’s AGM held in the Loch Garman Arms Hotel.

‘I think it is time for someone else to take the lead,’ said Liz. ‘I have been elected to become vice-chairperson.’

The new chairperson will be Billy Halford, who will also keep his role as Project Manager. Paddy Stack will head into his second year as Secretary. Long-standing member Cel Leacy will take on the position of Treasurer for the tenth year.

Liz said they had a guest speaker Joanna Browne from the Ad Hoc committee to discuss the possibility of Gorey Tidy Towns taking on some CE workers later this year. ‘We have agreed to take them on and we will see how it goes for the year,’ said Liz.

The Tidy Towns committee have to submit a letter to Joanna with a reason as to why they need the CE workers and what work has to be done in the area that they would do.

‘Hopefully we get two workers for the month of April,’ said Liz. ‘We really need extra volunteers to help with the maintenance of Gorey.’

Liz said no issues came up at the meeting, they only outlined what they will do for the coming year which will include: maintenance of projects; litter picking; and keeping the town tidy.

Gorey Tidy Towns committee meet up every Saturday morning at 10 a.m., at the shed, in Civic Square. New members welcome.
