CCTV from Harte’s pub in Campile showed Mr Whitty leaving the pub at 11.24 p.m. on his bike.

Consultant pathologist Dr Nigram Shah said Mr Whitty suffered extensive injuries. He said toxicology showed Mr Whitty had a blood alcohol concentration of 232ml which he said was quite high.

County coroner Dr Sean Nixon said Mr Whitty suffered very profound injuries and death would have been almost instant. ‘I don’t think Kevin had any real awareness and would have died instantly.’

Cause of death was multiple injuries as a result of a road traffic accident.

Dr Nixon recommended the jury of six men return a verdict of misadventure because of the ‘extremely high level of alcohol’.

He extended sympathy to the Whitty family on their very sad and very tragic loss and thanked them for attending. Sympathy was also extended to the family on behalf of the gardai and the jury.
