FOURTEEN ACTS WOW AUDIENCE!

SINGERS, DANCERS, kung fu fighters and aerial hoop performers all took their opportunit­y to wow the audience at the first semi final of ‘Wexford Has Talent’ which was held in Clayton Whites Hotel on Saturday night.

Fourteen acts took to the stage to battle it out for a coveted place in the Grand Final which will take place on February 24.

MC Cllr George Lawlor welcomed the 14 acts, the audience and the judges Ian Grey, Yvette Walsh, Vicki Clancy and Edel Quinlan. The standard of entries was high and an entertaini­ng evening was enjoyed by all.

Musical performers on the evening included: Faye Jordan (11), from Moyealy,who sang ‘The New Me’ from ‘The Greatest Showman’; Aoife Codd from Taghmon who sang ‘Colours of the Wind’; Michaela O’Hara, from Liverpool but living in Wexford town, who sang ‘One and Only’; Hayley Crosbie from New Ross who sang ‘When You Believe’ from ‘The Prince of Egypt’; 16-year-old Caoimhe Boyle, from Ballywilli­am, who sang ‘Popular’ from ‘Wicked’ and roped MC Cllr Lawlor in as her ‘prop’; 17-year-old Jack Gladney, from St Mullins, who sang ‘Isle of Hope’; singer-songwriter Luke Spellacy Shaw from Wexford town who opened the show with ‘If This Is It’; 16-yearold Victoria Fleming from Gorey who sang a self-compositio­n entitled ‘Crocodile Tears’; Nicole Galvin, from Wexford town, who sang ‘Yours’ by Ella Henderson; and father-and-daughter musical duo Aidan and Amy Murphy from Screen who performed Pink’s ‘What About Us’.

In addition to that, dancers Alex Saunders and Abbey Ormonde from Wexford School of Ballet and Performing Arts performed ‘Strong’ from Cinderella, while Ciara Furlong, Katie O’Connor, Anna Jeffares, Ella Grant, Michelle Cullen and Annie Kelly from the Sullivan Academy of Dance in Wexford town performed ‘Cry of the Celts’ from ‘Lord of the Dance’.

Kung Fu artist Nathan Casserly from Wexford town showed off his martial art skills, while 12-year-old Lauryn Barry, from Castlebrid­ge and Lioness Aerial Fitness, performed an aerial hoop routine.

Killian Duignan, one of the or- ganisers of the event, said:

‘The first semi final of 2018 was a hugely entertaini­ng evening – we don’t envy the decisions that the judges have to make. The acts who have qualified for the Grand Final will be announced in the Wexford People on Tuesday, January 30, and we can’t wait to see who makes it through.’

The line-up for this Saturday’s second semi final includes: Eabha Carty from Wexford town; Caoimhe and Will Troy from Tomhaggard; Niamh Murphy from Killinick; Sinead Doyle from Enniscorth­y; Aoife Goodison

from Wexford town; Seána Redmond from Courtnacud­dy; Marby Arriola from Kildare; Emma O’Leary from Wexford town; Imperium Dance Group from Next Level Dance School; Michaela O’Mahony from Castlebrid­ge; Nick Leo Ziemelis from Wexford town; John Winters from Courtown; Gwenaelle Noval from Dublin; Rachel Grace from Wexford town; ‘Ascension’ band members from Wexford and Enniscorth­y Leon Dummigan, Lauren Doyle, Tessa Crosbie, Rian Carty, Emily Dempsey and Patrick Hadrys; Deirdre Waters from Wellington­bridge; Anya Furlong from Bunclody; and Caitlin Finnegan from Killinick.

Tickets for the second semi final are on sale from Clayton White’s Hotel and are €10. The show starts at 8 p.m. The Grand Final will take place on February 24 at Clayton White’s Hotel. The competitio­n winner will walk away with a prize of €2,000 while two prizes of €500 will be awarded to runners-up. The event has been running in Wexford since 2015.
