Pupils from Bunscoil Loreto in Gorey have been working tirelessly for weeks to design and create colourful outfits from unused material.

The student council held a Junk Kouture Recycling Fashion Show for parents and friends last week, so the third to sixth class pupils could show of their handmade designs.

The standard was very high this year, but there could only be one overall winner – Klara Switon, who created a whole ensemble complete with a train on the dress made from Tayto crisp packets.

The overall runner-up award went to Cara Shiel, Ellie Fitzpatrick, Ali Funge and Sophie Kanavan, who designed a outfit decorated with playing cards, jigsaw pieces and old dice.

Other winners included: third class – Alice Connors; fourth class – Zoe Lawlor, Brooke O’Shea and Shayna Dunbar; fifth class – India Casey, Alexandra Chromey and Ilijana Chudzik; sixth class – Krista Mozeiko.

The student council, led by Karen Mernagh and Claire Thompson were heavily involved in much of the shows planning and preparations.

Entertainment on the night was provided by talented Irish dancers, musicians, as well as a Scór na nÓg novelty act which reached the Leinster Finals before Christmas.

Kevin Nimmo and Ursula Traynor were MCs on the night, while Judith O’Connor and Olive Kearns had the tough task of picking the winners,

The school would like to thank all the students for their wonderful creations and the parents and family members who supported this great event.
