Collection

The County Wexford Community Workshop in Enniscorth­y will hold their annual church gate collection on Saturday, February 10, and Sunday, February 11, in St Michael’s Church, Gorey. Irish Fiction

This event is a must for all those with an interest in literature. Gorey Library is delighted to welcome the new Laureate for Irish Fiction to the library along with a special guest on Tuesday, February 13, at 7.30 p.m.

Gardening

Join Frances and Iain of The Bay Garden for a series of four gardening talks starting on Tuesday, February 20, at 7 p.m., in Gorey Library.

The first workshop will concentrat­e on design, layout, usage and features. Advice on these issues and many more will be provided by our gardening experts. All welcome – booking essential.

Well-being

Paul Brown will give a follow-up workshop focusing on stress management on Thursday, February 22, at 7 p.m., in Gorey Library. Paul has worked as a lecturer in the School of Business in UCD from which he is presently on a career break. In 2004 he branched out into a career in holistic health. He has studied in Ireland, Britain, Germany, Greece and China and is qualified in a range of therapies including acupunctur­e, craniosacr­al therapy and well being coaching. Paul is passionate about promoting and coaching people to better health and a better quality of life.

Literature

The Literature Appreciati­on Course with Althea Farren continues on Thursday, February 15, at 11 a.m., in Gorey Library. Workshop 2 focuses on the importance of themes in literature with discussion and analysis of the theme of revenge.

Digital skills

Gorey Library will host a range of free digital skills training including basic computing, tablet and smartphone classes throughout February and March.

To register for a course, contact Gorey Library. Details will be passed on to a course facilitato­r who will contact you direct regarding availabili­ty of places and details of courses.

E-services

Gorey Library staff are on-hand to help people sign-up to their range of new eServices at the registrati­on clinic on Thursday, February 15, at 10.30 a.m.

Members can now borrow free eBooks, eMagazines and Audio books from the library by using their smartphone or tablet.

Come along to the free one-to-one introducti­on to eServices clinic to find out more. Bring along your smartphone or tablet, your library card and your email login details to register for the eServices.

Gorey Theatre

Gorey Little Theatre present ‘Unbroken Circle’ by James Wesley. Directed by Tara Ann Byrne, the play will begin Wednesday, February 14, until Friday, February 16, at 8 p.m. Tickets are available on the door. Adults €12 and students €8. Over 14’s only.

Seal rescue

Seal Rescue Ireland Centre in Courtown are hosting a volunteer training day.

It will take place on Saturday, February 17, from 11 a.m., until 3 p.m. Spaces are limited. For more informatio­n or to reserve your spot contact volunteer@ sealrescue­ireland.org

The volunteers will learn how to identify seals in distress; how to safely contain and transport seals; seal ecology and behaviour; help respond to seal pups in need; receive a vest, membership card and a rescue kit.

Author visit

Sinead O’Hart will visit Gorey Library for a creative writing workshop for kids on Saturday, February 24, at 2.30 p.m. Author of ‘The Eye of the North’, Sinead’s captivatin­g debut children’s novel is a gripping page-turner that weaves classic elements of fantasy, magic and mythical creatures into an epic voyage full of adventure and discovery. The workshop is aimed at nine to 12-year old and will be an opportunit­y on the day for children to purchase a copy of the book and have it signed by the author.

Exhibition

As part of the Artist in the Community project artist Kate Murphy and 19 service users from St Aidan’s Centre collaborat­ed in a group project entitled ‘I Too Am A Superhero’.

The group experiment­ed with various art techniques using traditiona­l and non-traditiona­l tools to produce individual collages that were used to create the group piece.

The exhibition will begin Monday, February 5, until Monday, February 12, in Gorey Library and will include the group Superhero piece and 19 individual framed pieces.

Regular event in Gorey Library: Sean Nos singing every Tuesday night in Gorey Library at 7 p.m.; R&R Bookclub meet on Monday mornings beginning on February 12, at 10.30 a.m.; Toddler storytime and art and craft every Tuesday morning, at 11 a.m.; Scrabble Club will meet on Tuesday, February 20, at 7 p.m.; Gorey Writers Group will meet on Thursday, February 8, and Thursday, February 22, at 7.15 p.m.; Page Turners Junior Bookclub will take place on Tuesday, February 27, at 3.30 p.m. Suitable for ages nine to 12. The book for February is ‘Time Travelling with a Hamster’.; eReaders will take place on Tuesday, Feburary 27, at 7.30 p.m.

Gorey Active

They are now taking membership fees for 2018 and names and deposits for the spring break. The trip will be to Sligo this year on Sunday, May 26. Members are available on Fridays in the Loch Garman Arms from 11 a.m., to 1 p.m. New faces are always welcome and membership fees can be paid on Fridays.

Cancer support

A support nurse from Hope Cancer Support Centre will be available at Gorey Family Resource Centre, Charlotte Row in Gorey on Wednesday, February 7. To book an appointmen­t or to find out more call 053 9238555.

Gorey ICA

The Gorey ICA meeting will be held on Tuesday, February 13, at 8 p.m., in the Loch Garman Arms Hotel. New members welcome.

Make-A-Wish

Make-A-Wish Ireland needs 55 local volunteers in Gorey for Wish Day, which takes place on Friday, March 9. Volunteers are asked to give just a few hours of their time to sell wristbands in their local supermarke­t or shopping centre. Carer support

A carers support group will run the last Wednesday of every month in the Gorey Resource Centre at 10.30 a.m. All welcome. These support groups are for carers of people who may suffer from dementia, mental health issues, physical disabiliti­es or who may fall under the autism spectrum also.

Chess Club

Gorey Chess Club meets every Monday at 8 p.m. in the Loch Garman Arms. The club caters for both casual players and competitiv­e players. Players of all standards including beginners are very welcome. Please ask for Seamus on arrival.

VTOS courses

The Vocational Training Opportunit­y Scheme (VTOS) for adult learners is now taking enrolments for September 2018 courses. VTOS Further education courses are ideal for second chance adult learners over the age of 21 and not in employment.

VTOS is situated across from Gorey Library in the Gorey Adult Education Centre. Staff are available without appointmen­t to talk about the many supports on offer in the centre, Monday to Friday 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. or by phone on 053 9421791 or email noreentray­nor@wwetb.ie

SVP shop
