Football
In association with Healthy Ireland and FAI, Walking Football is in the Badminton Centre on Esmonde Street, Gorey, from 2 p.m., every Thursday, until the end of March.
Suitable for all ages and abilities, just drop in any Thursday. Only rule is that you must walk, no running. Refreshments served afterwards.
Parade
The St Patrick’s Day Parade Committee in Gorey are desperately looking for stewards to help out on the day. There will be a short meeting held the weekend before St Patrick’s Day, where volunteers will be given a short introduction into what is expected of them.
The parade will take place Saturday, March 17, from 12 noon, until 5 p.m. For more information contact Sean Halford on 053 94 21845.
Irish Fiction
Gorey Library is delighted to welcome the new Laureate for Irish Fiction to the library along with a special guest on Tuesday, February 13, at 7.30 p.m. This event is a must for all those with an interest in literature.
Methodist
The Gorey Methodist Church will have Lenten Worship Service on Sunday, February 18, at 7.30 p.m., in Gorey Methodist Church. All welcome.
Gardening
Join Frances and Iain of The Bay Garden for a series of four gardening talks starting on Tuesday, February 20, at 7 p.m., in Gorey Library. The first workshop will concentrate on design, layout, usage and features.
Advice on these issues and many more will be provided by our gardening experts. All welcome – booking essential.
Agricultural Show
The Gorey Agricultural Show AGM will be held on Wednesday, February 21, in the Loch Garman Arms Hotel, at 8.30 p.m. New members are most welcome.
NWHS
North Wexford Historical Society will host a lecture on ‘The History of Gorey Market House’ with Willie Willoughby. It will take place on Thursday, February 22, at 7.30 p.m., in Gorey Market House. Admission is free and all are welcome to attend.
Wellbeing
Paul Brown will give a follow-up workshop focusing on stress management on Thursday, February 22, at 7 p.m., in Gorey Library. He has studied in Ireland, Britain, Germany, Greece and China and is qualified in a range of therapies including acupuncture, craniosacral therapy and wellbeing coaching.
Paul is passionate about promoting and coaching people to better health and a better quality of life.
Literature
The Literature Appreciation Course with Althea Farren continues on Thursday, February 15, at 11 a.m., in Gorey Library. Workshop 2 focuses on the importance of themes in literature with discussion and analysis of the theme of revenge.
Digital Skills
Gorey Library will host a range of free digital skills training including basic computing, tablet and smartphone classes throughout February and March.
To register for a course, contact Gorey Library. Details will be passed on to a course facilitator who will contact you direct regarding availability of places and details of courses.
E-services
Gorey Library staff are on-hand to help people sign-up to their range of new eServices at the registration clinic on Thursday, February 15, at 10.30 a.m.
Members can now borrow free eBooks, eMagazines and Audio books from the library by using their smartphone or tablet.
Come along to the free one-to-one introduction to eServices clinic to find out more. Bring along your smartphone or tablet, your library card and your email login details to register for the eServices. Not a library member? You can join the library for free. Just bring along photographic ID and proof of address to join.
Night run
Gorey Night Run 2018 (in aid of North Wexford Hospice) will take place on Thursday, February 15, at 7.30 p.m., leaving from Gorey Library.
Seal rescue
Seal Rescue Ireland Centre in Courtown are hosting a volunteer training day.
It will take place on Saturday, February 17, from 11 a.m., until 3 p.m. Spaces are limited. For more information or to reserve your spot contact volunteer@ sealrescueireland.org
The volunteers will learn how to identify seals in distress; how to safely contain and transport seals; seal ecology and behaviour; help respond to seal pups in need; receive a vest, membership card and a rescue kit.
Poker night
As part of the Operation TransFORDmation fundraiser, there will be a Poker Night held Friday, February 23, at 9 p.m., in Cooney’s of Hollyfort. Entry fee is €10.
Author visit
Sinead O’Hart will visit Gorey Library for a creative writing workshop for kids on Saturday, February 24, at 2.30 p.m. Author of ‘The Eye of the North’, Sinead’s captivating debut children’s novel is a gripping page-turner that weaves classic elements of fantasy, magic and mythical creatures into an epic voyage full of adventure and discovery. The workshop is aimed at nine to 12-year old and will be an opportunity on the day for children to purchase a copy of the book and have it signed by the author.

The book for February is ‘Time Travelling with a Hamster’.; eReaders will take place on Tuesday, February 27, at 7.30 p.m.
Active
A tea dance in The Lord Bagnall, Carlow will take place on Sunday, February 25. €35, including transport. They are now taking membership fees for 2018 and names and deposits for the spring break. The trip will be to Sligo this year on Sunday, May 26. Members are available on Fridays in the Loch Garman Arms from 11 a.m., to 1 p.m. New faces are always welcome.
The committee are looking at a trip to Barcelona, Spain for an Autumn Break in September. The hotel will be the Tropic Park. Cost €550 per person sharing and single room, €25 extra per night half board with wine included with the evening meal. If you are interested please call in on Fridays as we must have numbers as soon as possible.
Hospital
The Friends of Gorey District Hospital annual AGM will take place on Tuesday, February 27, at 8 p.m., in Loch Garman Arms Hotel. New faces are most welcome. Gorey Hospital would like to thank all the musicians who volunteered their services and for giving their time so freely, despite many commitments during the Christmas season.
Gorey ICA
The Gorey ICA meeting will be held on Tuesday, February 13, at 8 p.m., in the Loch Garman Arms Hotel. New members welcome.
Make-A-Wish
Make-A-Wish Ireland needs 55 local volunteers in Gorey for Wish Day, which takes place on Friday, March 9. Volunteers are asked to give just a few hours of their time to sell wristbands in their local supermarket or shopping centre. Carers
A carers support group will run the last Wednesday of every month in the Gorey Resource Centre at 10.30 a.m. All welcome.
These support groups are for carers of people who may suffer from dementia, mental health issues, physical disabilities or who may fall under the autism spectrum also.
Chess Club
Gorey Chess Club meets every Monday at 8 p.m. in the Loch Garman Arms. The club caters for both casual players and competitive players. Players of all standards including beginners are very welcome. Please ask for Seamus on arrival.
VTOS courses
The Vocational Training Opportunity Scheme (VTOS) for adult learners is now taking enrolments for September 2018 courses. They are situated across from Gorey Library. VTOS Further education courses are ideal for second chance adult learners over the age of 21 and not in employment.
