Students have all the skills!
THERE were plenty of celebrations at Enniscorthy Enterprise & Technology Centre recently as students were presented with awards in business. The group were delighted to graduate with a FETAC Level 5 in Practical Skills for SME Employment.
A full time training programme run by Enniscorthy Enterprise & Technology Centre, the course is funded by Waterford and Wexford Education Training Board and is aimed at students, primarily under 35 years of age, who do not have a leaving certificate or are long-term unemployed.
While studying, the students receive a training allowance from Waterford Wexford ETB subject to qualification. The core modules of the programme include, manual and computerised accounting, business administration and excel. These modules, along with others, ensure that each of the trainees is equipped with practical knowledge to confidently enter the workplace. A ten week work placement is an integral part of the course, with the students taking up positions with local employers. 70% of the trainees have remained in employment since graduating with a level 5 award.
Siobhan McGuire of Enniscorthy Enterprise & Technology Centre said: ‘We would like to offer a huge thank you to Eamon Mc Gettigan and Noel Hackett both of whom represent Waterford/ Wexford ETB, and who are fundamental to the success of the programme. We would also like to thank Marie Lyng President of the Enniscorthy Chamber who attended the ceremony on the day. Marie highlighted the high level of unemployment within the Enniscorthy district and reinforced her commitment to reducing this statistic through support of our local training initiative.’ For more details on the course you can contact Siobhan on 053-9237499 or info@eetc.ie.
