Launch of Music for Wexford
MUSIC for Wexford launched its 2018 programme with a recital in St. Iberius Church by the Vanburgh with guest pianist Michael McHale, playing works by Mozart, Dvorak and Standford.
The event was the first in a series of 13 concerts promoted with the assistance of funding from the Arts Council which will include performances by established Irish and international musicians as well as recitals by young artists at the start of their careers.
Two of the 2018 concerts wil take place outside Wexford town. St. Mary’s Church in Enniscorthy will be the venue for a recital on Sunday, March 4 by the Far Flung Trio with Katherine Hunka on violin, Dermot Dunne on accordion and Malachy Robinson on double bass, playing works by Gershwin, Dvorak and Paganini and a fiery selection of Klezmer dance tunes.
On Sunday, May 13, a Musici Ireland quintet will perform works by Mozart, Brahms and the renowned contemporary Wexford composer Liam Bates in St. Peter’s Church, Kilmore Quay.
The summer lunch-time series is usually devoted to talented young musicians. Two of the four recitals will feature students from the Royal Irish Academy of Music who will be selected by audition in the spring.
Other recitals will include Thibaut Garcia on guitar and Isang Enders on cello on April 22, in association with Music Network, followed by the Ficino Ensemble on June 16 and soprano Hanna Hipp with Emma Abate on piano on July 6.
The season will end on November 19 with a double harpsichord recital by James Taylor and Tom O’Drisceoil.
Tickets can be booked in advance at www.nationaloperahouse.ie. and they will also be available at the door for each performance.
