Joey’s into last eight
St. Joseph’s 4, Fastnet Rovers 0: Last season’s semi-finalists St. Joseph’s are through to the last eight after proving too strong for Fastnet Rovers and running out 4-0 winners.
Laura Warren, Pamela Walsh, Michelle Gahan and Aine Roche all scored for the home side, with all four goals coming in the first-half.
Bridge Rovers 2, New Ross Town 0: Rovers are through to the quarter-finals of the Wexford Cup after they overcame an understrength New Ross Town 2-0.
Tombrack United 2, Bunclody A.F.C. 3: These two sides played out an exciting local derby before Bunclody eventually progressed by the odd goal in five.
Britney Conroy scored in the first minutes of both halves, with Nicole Fortune also finding the net for the home side while Sarah Merrigan and Shannon McGovern were on target for Tombrack.
Shannon unfortunately picked up a head injury late in the game and had to be removed to hospital by ambulance. Everyone involved in Wexford soccer wish her a speedy recovery.
Camolin Celtic 1, North End United 7: Holders North End are safely through to the last eight after proving much too strong for Camolin, running out 7-1 winners.
Sara Byrne scored a hat-trick for the visitors, with Lynn Marie Grant, Shauna Gleeson, Diane Leniston and Kim Walker also on target. Niamh O’Leary scored for Camolin.
Bree United 1, Adamstown F.C. 5: Adamstown booked their place in the last eight as they accounted for Bree United on a 5-1 scoreline.
Leanne Delaney and Sarah Banville scored a goal apiece, with Marcella Cullen contributing an impressive hat-trick and Mary O’Gorman on target for Bree.
Courtown Hibs 3, St. Leonards 2: It is not known who scored the winner in this exciting cup tie, just that the ball did end up in the back of the St Leonards net.
Previous to this, Marian Cardiff had scored two goals for the home side with Fiona Ryan on target twice for the visitors before what proved to be the winner was scored ten minutes prior to the break.
St. Leonards pushed hard for the equaliser in the second-half but Hibs held on to go through to the quarter-finals.
Ferns United 1, Forth Celtic 2 (abandoned in 101st minute): Forth Celtic were on the verge of causing a major cup upset as they led Premier side Ferns United in extra-time before the game was abandoned.
Liz Evered had scored for Ferns while Laura Stafford and Lauren Roche were on target for Forth Celtic.
In the first minute of the second period of extra-time, Ferns keeper Gráinne McCabe received a nasty neck injury which resulted in the need to call an ambulance.
As this took some time, the game was abandoned and will go to the league committee to decide the outcome.
Everyone from both clubs and all those involved in Wexford soccer wish Gráinne a speedy recovery.
Cloughbawn A.F.C. 5, Kilmore United 0: The home side moved into a challenging position in Division 1 when proving too strong for a young Kilmore side.
Two goals from Tina Cullen and one each from Kate Cullen, Chloe Merrigan and Ulrika Dreelan gave Cloughbawn a vital win.
St. Cormac’s 2, Wexford Bohs 2: The home side dropped vital points as they try to keep pressure on the leaders, playing out a closely-contested 2-2 draw.
Lorraine Fortune scored both goals for the home side, while Denise Leniston scoredtwo for Bohs.
Shelburne United 1, Cushinstown A.F.C. 2: Eimear Murphy gave Shelburne the lead in this game which was played at pace, with both sides playing fast, exciting football.
Rosie Bennett brought the sides level and Eimear Whelan scored the winner ten minutes from time to give Cushinstown their second victory of the season.
