With the fourballs and scramble still to come, all is set for a great finish.

WEXFORD LADIES
The Senior ladies were out in force last week with 37 members playing on Monday, February 5. In a close-fought contest, the prize-winners were:

Due to bad weather conditions, last week’s 14-hole singles stableford competition was converted to a sweep stake. Our winner, for the second week in a row, was Leonie Furlong (12) with 25 points.
Well done to all who played on a bitterly cold day.
ST. HELEN’S
The winter league has reached the final stages. Team Brian topped the table, so go straight to the grand final on Saturday, March 3.
Teams Aileen, Simon, Hector, Larry and Georgina battle for the remaining two final places over the next two Saturdays.

NEW ROSS
A total of 107 brave souls played in Sunday’s competition despite some very inclement weather. The winning score was a fantastic one under the circumstances, with the first team having secured a fourth player just before tee-time.

NEW ROSS SENIORS
A murky, damp February morning kept the numbers down for our weekly outing on Thursday. With intermittent rain persisting for most of the round, it was rather uncomfortable for the players but at least it was a bit milder than previous days.
Nevertheless, scoring was quite good in the champagne scramble format with the winning team bringing 100 points (94 + 6), the extra six points being the bonus for a three-person team. The trio who won the bragging rights were Patsy Farrell, Kenny Irwin and Richie Aylward.
Second place went to Dick Cuddihy, John F. Roche, Dickie O’Neill and Donie Cody with 96 points.
The 94 points scored by Hughie O’Connor, John Fitzpatrick, Billy Redmond and Martin Forristal proved good enough to claim the third spot.
Only one nearest the prize was won, by Mikey Lee on the ninth hole.
Next Thursday morning we will discuss the feasibility of starting at a later time, seeing that our earlier start of 9.45 a.m. does not suit a number of our members.

With all seven qualifying rounds of our Colman Doyle EBS-sponsored winter league now having been completed, we are down to the semi-finals.
Well done to all who took part over the last number of weeks and, even though the course had to be closed on a number of weekends, we are right on schedule for the serious part.
In section one, Quigley’s Quorum came out on top with a total score of 185.3 points, followed by Hughes’ Heroes with 178.0 points.
In section two, Larry’s Lads claimed top spot with 174.7 points, followed by Noel’s Knockouts with 172.8 points.
Next Sunday morning it will be Quigley’s Quorum versus Noel’s Knockouts and Hughes’ Heroes versus Larry’s Lads. The format will be an aggregate fourball with the three best cards from each team to count.
The final is scheduled for Sunday, February 25, when we will all be back on the course playing for third and fourth places.
There will also be longest drive and nearest the pin competitions on finals day.

THE UNDER-16 girls’ game between Enniscorthy and Tullow, played under lights on Friday, had everything from the start.
It took Tullow 13 minutes to score their first try when Enniscorthy didn’t close the gap and they swept through. The passes in play and turnovers the Enniscorthy girls won were the product of great skill.
Mia Kelly was just short of the line to put them level, but the patience and the workrate paid off as Katie Whelan scored a wonderful try in the 23rd minute.
Level at half-time, what a second period this was going to be. Tullow got a break within two minutes of starting the second-half to score their second try.
The Enniscorthy girls gave it their all. The drive and the passion was magical to watch, and as the minutes ticked down they unfortunately just ran out of time.
The near misses don’t count but they were just so close to success. Another great game from two great teams ended with Tullow winning 10-5.
There is no game next weekend. Training continues every Monday and Wednesday from 7.30 to 9 p.m.
