SENIOR CITIZENS PARTY

There was a great attendance at the senior citizens’ party hosted by the Boolavogue Foróige club in the hall on Sunday, February 4. All the guests were well fed, plied with drink and treated like royalty. Then they were entertaine­d by Lar Kenny and visiting VIPs, including Masie Nolan (née Burke) who now lives in Gorey had a great time catching up with all their friends in Boolavogue.

BIGGEST LOSER WALKS

There was a great turnout on Saturday the third. in Boolavogue for the 4k walk/run organised as part of the Biggest Loser iniative. These walks are organised each Saturday, alternatin­g between Boolavogue and Monageer. On Saturday last, the 10th. it was Monageer’s turn to host the activity and it’ll be back in Boolavouge this coming Saturday, February 17. Those taking part meet up at the church at 9 a.m. for a 4k walk or run.

SOCCER NEWS

St Cormac’s under-13s have a small squad this year and would welcome new recruits. If you are interested in joing a small but dedicated bunch of players, please contact the mentors. They were away to Shamrock Rovers on Saturday the third and were deservedly leading by 1-0 at the break. However, their inability to bring on subs in the second half saw the Enniscorth­y side over take them to win by 5-2.

On the same day, the Youths’ team took on Curracloe in a league clash and won very comfortabl­y by 11-1. Nathan Dickson scored a hat-trick and then added another for the first four goals. Pádraig Moran added two more, while Tom Fitzgerald added another just before the break to leave our lads 7-1 up. Ryan Milling with a brace and one each from Harry Ellix and Peter Gahan brought the total to 11. Tom Fitzgerald had a great game as did the versatile Daire Swords. With three matches to go, this talented team remain unbeated and lead their division.

The under-15s also won, beating Adamstown by 5-3 in a cup game. Cormac Walsh scored four and Eoin Doolan added the last.

The following day, the ladies’ game was postponed but the ‘A’ team’s game against Stoney Rovers went ahead. After a tight game, they collected the points, winning 1-0 thanks to a penalty in the dying minutes of the game. Johnny Fitzgerald, who had been brilliant in attack was mowed down in the area and Jamie Dempsey-Doyle converted. The ‘B’ team also won, beating Adamstown by 4-2. Dean Fortune scored a hat-trick and Martin Demspey-Keane, who had set up goal after goal for the Youths’ on Saturday, found the net for the fourth goal.

PARENT/TODDLER GROUP

The parent and toddler group meets every Wednesday in Boolavogue hall from 9.30 a.m. till 11.30 a.m. The cost is only €3 per family, refreshmen­ts are served and all are welcome. If you have any queries, please contact 087 9206822. or 087 7962161.

TABLE QUIZ/RAFFLE

The Boolavogue team in the ‘Biggest Loser’ competitio­n is organising monster table quiz for March 2, in the Harrow. It only costs €40 to enter a team of four and great craic is guaranteed.

They are also selling tickets for a brilliant raffle. First prize is a dinner for eight, cooked in your own home by the famous Chef, Paul O’Loughlin of the Hotel Kenmare. The second prize is a load of logs, ready cut for your stove and the third prize is a giant food hamper. These are only three of at least a dozen prizes on offer. Tickets only cost €5 or three for €10 and every penny will be going to our local GAA club.

MINISTERS OF THE WORD

On Saturday evening, February 17, Bernie Flood is the reader at the Vigil Mass while Rika O’Neill will be reading at the 11 a.m. Mass on Sunday morning. The Eucharisti­c Minister on duty on Saturday night is Ann Whelan and Gaye Gahan will be helping distribute Holy Communion at the 11 a.m. Mass on Sunday morning the 18th.

HARROW CYCLE

If you are involved in training for the ‘Biggest Loser’ competitio­n, it could help get you in shape for the annual Harrow Cycle which will take place on Whit weekend. Last year, the group raised €6,145 which was used to buy physo equipment for Crumlin Children’s Hospital.
