Adventure centre wins award

COURTOWN Adventure and Leisure Centre has won the Sustainabl­e Energy category at the SFA National Small Business Awards.

The community-run centre has carried out significan­t energy-saving works including: installing solar panels on the pool roof; a new retrofit of LED lighting; and installing new pumps for the pool with new variable speed drives.

General Manager Margaret Quinn said they are delighted to have won the Sustainabl­e Energy category of the Small Firms Associatio­n awards.

‘We appreciate the loyalty we get from customers year after year and their input into our efforts to make this a sustainabl­e energy centre,’ said Margaret. ‘Wexford County Council are also an excellent supporter of the centre.’

Announcing the overall winner, SFA Chair Sue O’Neill said Courtown Adventure and Leisure Centre provides a great range of activities for the southeast.

‘This community run, notfor-profit organisati­on implemente­d a drastic overhaul and upgrade of their energy systems,’ said Sue. ‘They have managed to achieve a 50 per cent reduction in energy costs over two years, what a phenomenal achievemen­t.’

Minister for Business, Enterprise and Innovation Heather Humphries presented General Manager Margaret Quinn with the award.

The aim of the awards is to celebrate the achievemen­ts of small businesses in Ireland, and to recognise the vital contributi­on to the Irish economy. The winners were selected from hundreds of applicatio­ns received.
