Bernie is a finalist for ‘Greatest Friendship’

-

GOREY-native Bernie Kirwan captured the hearts of judges and has been named as a finalist in Fisherman’s Friend Search for Ireland’s Greatest Friendship.

Individuals across Ireland were encouraged to pay tribute to a true friend who goes far and beyond the call of duty by submitting an image and short description that best illustrates their friendship.

Bernie paid tribute to her friends she met through nursing training in 1977.

She said: ‘I have a few good friends from my nursing training 1977. We don’t see each other too often. But no matter how much time passes we naturally connect. If ever I need anything, I know I can ring, and the same goes for them.

‘This natural friendship stems from spending our formative years together. There is a great familiarity when we meet. Once we get past the dodgy knees, backs, hips, hot flushes the craic is mighty. No matter how many years pass we simply reconnect.

‘You see, the essence of who we are never changes. What a sense of comfort it is to simply be ourselves.’

Judges included Editor of Irish Country Living Mairead Lavery, President of the Irish Photographic Federation Dominic Reddin and Area Business Manager of Fisherman’s Friend Martin Stimson.

Mr Stimson said there is such a strength in friendship and it has been a privilege to be part of this competition. He said the quantity and quality was impressive.
