LADY BIRD RAISES €3,000 FOR ST AIDAN’S DAY CARE CENTRE

-

More than 300 gathered at Movies@ Gorey last week for a special screening of ‘Lady Bird’, which stars Irish actress Saoirse Ronan.

The première of ‘Lady Bird’ was in aid of St Aidan’s Day Care Centre and they raised over €3,000 that will be used to run the centre.

The Oscar nominated film is about an outspoken teenager who must navigate a loving but turbulent relationship with her strong-willed mother over the course of an eventful and poignant senior year of high school.

Board member Darragh O’Doherty said it was a brilliant evening. ‘I would like to thank all of the sponsors,’ added Darragh.

The centre opened in the 1970s for people with disabilities. It includes services such as residential, respite, day care and various activities.

‘Recently we put together a fundraising committee,’ said Darragh. ‘We are always looking for ways to fundraise for the centre.’

The committee are planning to show a screening of the new Mamma Mia 2 in July to raise money. ‘We would have an Abba dress theme and have a barbecue after it,’ said Darragh.
