Launch night finally goes ahead
THE committee of the 62nd South Leinster Drama Festival were forced to reorganise their launch night for this year due to the severe weather last week.
The festival, which was due to start on Thursday, March 1, was finally launched last Monday night. Local councillor Malcolm Byrne cut the ribbon to this year’s festival and Bunclody/Kilmyshall Drama Group opened
with their production of Neil Simon’s ‘Rumours’. Two plays, ‘Proof’ by Wexford Drama Group and ‘Bold Girls’ by Holycross Ballycahill, were cancelled and rescheduled at a later date in Wexford.
‘The two cancelled plays were rescheduled for Monday, March 12, and Tuesday, March 13, during the Wexford Drama Festival,’ said Secretary of Gorey Little Theatre
Clara Carter. ‘They are still being adjudicated by Imelda McDonagh as part of our festival.’
The rest of the seven plays went ahead as planned. No results were announced on the final night (Sunday), as they had to wait for the last performance, which takes place tonight (Tuesday) in Wexford. Clara said it was great to see such a huge crowd for the launch night.
