House to be demolished in Gorey

- By SARA GAHAN

Planning permission has been granted by Wexford County Council for a building at St Michael’s Place in Gorey to be demolished to make way for an office space and a one-bedroom apartment.

DJ Fitzpatrick Consulting Engineers will place a new building structure at number six, St Michael’s Place.

It will include an office space to ground and first floor level of the front section of the building and a single storey one-bedroom apartment to the rear.

It will also consist of the re-establishment of pedestrian access to the rear by the public lane way at Centenary Place.

Planning was refused last year by the Council for demolition of the two-storey dwelling and to replace it with a commercial structure.

There were four objections received in relation to the development of the office space. The objections included the height of the new office building; noise from AHU units; overshadowing and general impact on residential amenities in the area.

The re-design of the proposed scheme has regard of the developments to the rear of the dwellings located along St Michael’s Place and Wexford Street to the east and west.

No windows will be placed at the first floor level to the rear of the building, hence overlooking will not be a concern.

The one-bedroom apartment will keep with the objective of the Local Area Plan in providing a development of mixed uses within the town centre of Gorey.
