Conradh

Gorey Branch of Conradh was delighted to be presented with the award of first place in Leinster for promotion of the Irish language at the annual Árd-Fheis of Conradh na Gaeilge in Tralee.

Bhronn Niall Comer, Úachtaráín Conradh na Gaeilge an Gradam ar Bróna Ní Chionnfhao­laidh, Cathaoirle­ach Craobh Ghuaire.

Regular events continue with Irish classes in the Library on Tuesday evenings and Colm Ó Braonáin’s sean-nós singing workshop takes place in the Library at 7 p.m.

Football

In associatio­n with Healthy Ireland and FAI, Walking Football is in the Badminton Centre on Esmonde Street, Gorey, from 2 p.m., every Thursday, until the end of March.

Suitable for all ages and abilities, just drop in any Thursday. Only rule is that you must walk, no running. Refreshmen­ts served afterwards.

Bible

The Gorey Christian Assembly are hosting a Bible for Beginners in Ramsgate Village.

It will commence on Tuesday, March 20, from 8 p.m., until 9.30 p.m., and run for seven weeks.

Active

The New Ross Tea Dance will take place on Sunday, March 25, in Rue Glen Hotel. The Gorey Active Retirement tea dance will take place on Sunday, April 15, in the Ashdown Park Hotel.

Gorey Active Retirement are now taking membership fees for 2018 and names and deposits for the spring break. The trip will be to Sligo this year on Sunday, May 27. Members are available on Fridays in the Loch Garman Arms from 11 a.m., to 1 p.m. New faces are always welcome.

The Autumn break to Barcelona has been cancelled due to shortage of numbers. Another venue is being sought.

Resource

A carers support group will run the last Wednesday of every month in the Gorey Family Resource Centre at 10.30 a.m. All welcome. These support groups are for carers of people who may suffer from dementia, mental health issues, physical disabiliti­es or who may fall under the autism spectrum also.

Toddler yoga

Toddler Yoga with Liz Moffat will take place on Tuesday, March 20, at 11 a.m., in Gorey Library. This session will replace the regular Tuesday toddler storytime. Collaborat­ing with Martina to integrate a Yoga session into Story Time, the emphasis of the session is on a playful journey for the child.

Cooking

Cooking for Kids with Margaret Corcoran will take place on Thursday, March 22, at 7 p.m., in Gorey Library. Margaret is on hand to demonstrat­e how to prepare fast and fuss free lunches without compromisi­ng on taste or nutritiona­l value. All welcome, booking essential.

Sleep Out

Join Focus Ireland’s first ‘Big Gorey Sleep Out’ on Friday, March 23, in the Methodist Church car park and raise funds to help support over 3000 children who will be homeless this Easter.

First Aid

First Aid for parents training will take place on Saturday, March 24, at 2.30 p.m., in Gorey Library. Parent First Aid is Ireland’s fastest growing first aid company, offering a 2 hour practical course that gives attendees the confidence and basic lifesaving skills to act quickly in the event of a family medical emergency. Crafts

The Polish Cultural Associatio­n will host an Easter art and craft day for adults on Saturday, March 24, from 3 p.m., in Gorey Library. This session is open to all as it will be conducted in the English language. Booking necessary through library.

Fair

Gorey Creative first fair of the year will take place on Saturday, March 24, in Gorey Shopping Centre, from 12 noon, until 5 p.m. All welcome.

AGM

Friends of Local People living with Multiple Sclerosis in North Wexford will take place on Sunday, March 25, at 2.30 p.m., in the Pastoral Centre at St Michael’s Church, Gorey.

Gardening

Back to Basics Gardening Talks with Frances and Iain McDonald will continue in Gorey Library on Tuesday, March 6, and Tuesday, March 27, at 7 p.m. Booking essential.

AGM

The AGM for Friends of Gorey Hospital will take place on Tuesday, March 27, at 8 p.m., in the Loch Garman Arms. New faces and members are most welcome.

Literature

Life After School: A Look at English Literature with Althea Farren course will continue on Thursday, March 8 and Thursday, March 29 at 11 a.m., in Gorey Library. The aim of this literary appreciati­on course is to introduce you to texts that you may not have had time to enjoy when you were at school. All welcome, booking essential.

Talk to Tom

A special talk by Enda O’Doherty will be held on Thursday, March 29, at 7.30 p.m., in the Ashdown Park Hotel. The talk, ‘The Best Your Child Can Be’, is about positive mental health for all parents, educators and coaches. Tickets are €10 for adults and €5 for under-18s. Digital Skills

Gorey Library will host a range of free digital skills training including basic computing, tablet and smartphone classes throughout February and March.

Regular events in Gorey Library: Sean Nos singing every Tuesday night in Gorey Library at 7 p.m.; Toddler storytime and art and craft every Tuesday morning, at 11 a.m.; Gorey Writers Group will meet on Thursday, March 22, at 7.15 p.m.; Page Turners Junior Bookclub postponed until Tuesday, April 17, at 3.30 p.m. Suitable for ages nine to 12.; Scrabble Club will meet on Thursday, March 20, at 7 p.m.

Chess

Gorey Chess Club meets every Monday at 8 p.m. in the Loch Garman Arms. The club caters for both casual players and competitiv­e players. Players of all standards including beginners are very welcome. Please ask for Seamus on arrival.

Exhibition

The Willie Redmond exhibition will take place in Gorey Library for the month of March. This wonderful exhibition celebratin­g the life of Wexford born Willie Redmond was curated by Librarian Jarlath Glynn.

WizardofOz

Gorey Musical Society will take to the stage with its production of The Wizard of Oz from April 10 until April 14.

The show will be staged at Gorey Little Theatre at 8 p.m. nightly with an extra matinee performanc­e on April 14, at 3 p.m.

All tickets are €14 and this is guaranteed to be a great night for all the family.

Cycling Club

Gorey Cycling Club are proud to announce the Couch to 100km initiative.

Pilgrimage

The Medjugorje Group seven night pilgrimage will take place on Monday, April 9, until Monday, April 16. Departing from Dublin Airport.

VTOS courses

The Vocational Training Opportunit­y Scheme (VTOS) for adult learners is now taking enrolments for September 2018 courses.

VTOS Further education courses are ideal for second chance adult learners over the age of 21 and not in employment.
