Play lives up to the Rumours!

- By PÁDRAIG BYRNE

YOU could hear the laughter echoing around the hall at FCJ Bunclody recently as Bunclody Kilmyshall Drama Group staged their production of the hilarious ‘Rumours’ by Neil Simon before the hit the festival circuit.

The cast and crew were hopeful of substantial local support over three nights before they hit the road in a bid to qualify for the All-Ireland Drama Festival finals, and they were not disappointed.

The play tells the story of a party thrown by Charley and Myra Brock to celebrate their 10th anniversary. Chris and Ken Gorman arrive only to find that Myra is missing and Charley has ‘accidentally’ shot himself in the ear, rendering him unconscious and unable to tell what happened. Given Charley’s role as Deputy Mayor of New York and keen to avoid a scandal, Ken and Chris go about covering up what they assume to be the truth of the situation, however, as more guests arrive, the plot twists and turns in hilarious fashion.

The reviews of the production have been extremely favourable for Director Kieran Tyrell and his cast of Padraig D’Arcy, Sinead O’Gorman, Tim Connaughton, Róisín Whelan, Billy Canning, Elaine Jordan, John Moulton, Josephine Byrne, Paul Doran and Margaret Farrell.

Also coming in for particular praise was the set design and costumes which were fantastic.

The group wished to thank everyone who came out to see the production on its ‘maiden voyage’ and said that the local support, once again, has been outstanding. Rumours will now go on the road appearing at festivals in Kilmuckridge, Wexford, Gorey, Roscommon, Castleblaney, New Ross, Shercock and Newry, hoping to secure a place in the All-Ireland finals.
