COUNTY WEXFORD HOSPICE HOMECARE.

The Craanford Heritage Group held a charity vintage car and tractor run in memory of Markie Doyle on the last Sunday in January 2018. It was their 13th year to hold this event with all funds raised coming to North Wexford Hospice Nursing Trust. On Saturday, March 24, they presented a cheque to NWHNT for €35,190.50. In 1992 some like-minded people such as Dr Michael O’Doherty, Dr Paddy McKiernan, Una Murphy and several others from across Wexford came together to form County Wexford Hospice Homecare. It was realised that more and more families who had a relative who had been diagnosed with a terminal illness wanted them to be cared for in their own home for as long as it was possible. So the County Wexford Hospice Homecare was born. At first it was one clinical nurse specialist working five days a week, now it employs eight clinical nurse specialists working seven days a week. In 2016 there were over 300 new clients introduced to the service with over 5,000 home visits undertaken by the nurses. While each of the fundraising groups hosts their own fundraising events, we receive many donations from individuals and communities such as the Craanford Heritage Group. It is the 13th year to host this event and the commitment from Danny Whelan, Michelle Kavanagh, Josie Greene, Matt and Peter Doyle and many others is much appreciated and we send them all our thanks. Upcoming date for your diary: Hospice barbecue Saturday, May 12, Amber Springs Hotel Gorey, steak supper followed by music and dancing from Teresa and the Stars.
