Students make inspiring music video with leading Sri Lankan singer Mario

- By SARA GAHAN

Music Director and vocalist from Sri Lanka Mario Ananda Abeykoon paid Gorey a visit recently and took a new musical step.

Mario Ananda collaborated with 14-year old Chloe Dore who is currently studying in St Mary’s Arklow. One of Chloe’s best friends Senuri Wickramarathne wrote a song called ‘A Star has Chosen You’, and made a request to Mario to create a melody for it.

Earlier in April, more than 30 children congregated at Gorey Library where Mario and Chloe created a music video for the song. The director of photography was done by Gorey-native Conor Stafford. The video will be released in the next couple of weeks and will be available on YouTube.

The song is a wishful prayer for all the lonely children in the world who have been put down because of their skin colour or disability. Songwriter Senuri said this is an invitation to all children to help defend voiceless people in the world.

Mario was in Ireland last year and made great friends when he participated in events, but this year Mario landed in Gorey to mostly visit organisations and play music.

He said he went to Gorey District Hospital to play for the senior citizens and joined musicians Sean Mythen and Jimmy Phillips where he took part in a musical night in the Ashdown Park Hotel.

‘I am very thankful to the people of Wexford,’ said Mario. ‘And a big thanks goes to all the amazing talented children in Gorey.’
