Too easy for Gusserane

- JASON GOODISON

GUSSERANE–O’RAHILLY’S dominated a very one-sided game as they recorded their second win in Group ‘A’ of the Enniscorthy Farm Systems Junior Football Championship in O’Kennedy Park on Friday evening.

Five points behind at the break, Shamrocks were just barely in touch, but Gusserane kicked on in the second half to record an impressive sixteen-point victory.

Alan Myler, Kevin Donoghue and Sean O’Connor got O’Rahilly’s going before Graham Nolan kicked the first of Shamrock’s four scores.

When Jack Carroll replied to Myler’s free on the quarter hour mark to make it 4-2, there was just a sneaking suspicion that the Enniscorthy men might be able to make a game of.

However, those thoughts were soon vanquished as another Myler minor marked the start of a 40 minute period where Guesserane scored 15 of the next 16 points.

Jamie Cooney and Ciaran Conway were on target before the interval (0-7 to 0-2) but it was really in the second half when Gusserane put their opponents to the sword.

Carroll kicked the first point of the half for the Shamrocks before Darragh Doyle, Donoghue, O’Connor and Tom Foran made it an eight point game by the 40th minute.

Donoghue was really coming into his own, he raised another white flag before the introduction of Jack Culleton resulted in a quick point for the sub.

Eoin Codd scored from wing back and Doyle had a go from a placed ball as the lead increased to 13 (0-16 to 0-3).

Doyle would score once more before the full time whistle, as would Foran, Myler and Culleton as they concluded their tally at the 20 point mark.

Brandon O’Connor added a late score for the Enniscorthy boys but it did little to lift the moods of the Shamrocks camp as they fell to their second straight Championship loss.
