GAA ACTION

On Tuesday last, April 24, the under-13 hurlers recorded a good win over Gussarane in Monageer. The weather was not nice but both teams served up an entertaining game. This win was a great start to the team’s hurling season. The previous evening the under-17 footballers added to their winning streak, beating Ballygarrett by 3-8 to 1-6. The seasiders were bigger and more physical but our lads absorbed the tackles and worked the ball well to create and capitalise on scoring opportunities.

SOCCER NEWS

The Youths’ team, which was crowned league champions, travelled to Rosslare Rangers on Tuesday night the 24th to play their last game of the season. Unbeaten from the start, they were hoping to maintain this record but went down 0-3 to a committed, determined Rosslare side.

In the first half, we had numerous chances, striking both uprights and hitting the crossbar but in the second half, Rangers came out determined to salvage some pride from the season and took the lead. We had a goal disallowed soon afterwards but with the Rosslare keeper in superb form, nothing crossed their goalline again. Despite the loss, the lads were delighted to see team captain Graham Meegan presented with the league trophy by the league’s Phil O’Brien.

On the Sunday before, the 22nd, the ladies’ team beat Bridge Rovers 1-0 away to move into the cup semi-final. Lorraine Fortune scored and Aife Walsh was the player-of-the-match.

The Men’s ‘A’ team were away to St Leonards in the Neill O’Sullivan Cup and lost by 0-1. The ‘B’ team were also out against St Leonards but lost by 2-3 in the league.
