The newly refurbishe­d Courtown RNLI shop on the North Pier will now open seven-days a week from 1.30 p.m., until 5.30 p.m., except for Friday’s with an earlier time of 10.30 a.m., until 5 p.m. Everyone is welcome, so come in and browse the various items they have for sale and help save lives at sea.

Gorey Active

Gorey Active Retirement Dublin Bay day trip on July 5 is €35 per person. Depart the Ashdown Park Hotel at 9 a.m. Board a Pleasure Cruise Boat and sail around Dublin Bay to Howth. Book early to ensure a place. Leaflets available on Fridays in the Loch Garman Arms. Sea Cruise and River Seine Experience on July 21, 2019, for seven nights. Collection from Gorey to Dublin, board and sail at 2.55 p.m. £1,349 for two people inside cabin full board. £1,859 for inside cabin ocean view. £1,049 for single occupancy. The Spring Break will be from May 27, until May 31, in Sligo Park Hotel. This is fully booked, and should be a great experience with lots of dancing and entertainm­ent.

Phil Lynott

Jackie Hayden will discuss his relationsh­ip with Phil Lynott and how he wrote ‘My Boy’ with his mother Philomena in Gorey Library on Tuesday, May 8, at 7 p.m. Jackie will discuss the challenges and difficulti­es faced in writing the book while Phil Lynott’s mother still grieved over his death. This event is suitable for rock fans and students of human relationsh­ips. All welcome, booking essential.

Plant swap

The third annual Gorey Plant Swap will take place on Sunday, May 13, at 2 p.m., in St Mogues Community Centre, Inch.

Come along to the plant swap where people can exchange their excess plants for something new. Visitors can bring plants, perennial divisions, potted up seedlings, rooted cuttings and seeds of vegetables, flowers, herbs, trees and shrubs. Please put plants in containers. Gorey Theatre

The Gorey Little Theatre AGM will be held on Monday, May 14, at 8 p.m. All are welcome. Car boot sale

There will be a Car Boot Sale in aid of Christ Church, Gorey on Saturday, May 12, in the grounds of the school, from 9 a.m., until 1 p.m. Cars are €10 and vans are €15. Refreshmen­ts will be served throughout the day. Gates are opened to traders from 8 a.m.

Choirs

Festival of Choirs 2018 in aid of County Wexford Hospice Homecare will take place on Friday, May 11, until Sunday, May 13 in venues across Gorey. Choirs from all over county Wexford will perform free of charge.

They will be discussing ‘Miraculous Miranda’ by Siobhan Parkinson; eReaders will meet on Tuesday, May 15, at 7.30 p.m. This month they will be discussing ‘Ties’ by Domenico Stamone and ‘The Unseen’ by Roy Jacobsen.

Dine2Help

There will be a Dine2Help event in aid of Christ Church Gorey in Eco Restaurant on Tuesday, May 15, from 12 noon, until late.

Art exhibition

Gorey Adult Education Art Exhibition will take place in Gorey Library on Thursday, May 17, at 7 p.m. They will showcase their work that has been produced during the year. The exhibition will run until Monday, May 21.

Eservices

Gorey Library staff are on-hand to help you to sign-up to their range of new eServices. You can now borrow free eBooks, popular eMagazines and eAudio books from your local library by using your smartphone or tablet.

Come along to other free one-toone introducti­on to eServices clinic to find out more. This will take place in Gorey Library on Thursday, May 17, and members of the public are encouraged to drop-in anytime between 10.30 a.m. and 1 p.m.

Bring along your smartphone or tablet, your library card and your email login details to register for the eServices. Not a library member? You can join the library for free. Just bring along photograph­ic ID and proof of address to join.

Energy talk

Join Fiona O’Loughlin in Gorey Library on Tuesday, May 15, at 7 p.m., for a talk on how to become a part of Sustainabl­e Energy Community.

Fiona is a Community Mentor and will show how a community group can become part of a Sustainabl­e Energy Community (SEC). An SEC works and acts together to develop and implement a plan to reduce energy consumptio­n and increase renewable energy.

The talk is aimed at Tidy Towns, parish committees, sports clubs and any other local group.

Biodiversi­ty

Jim Hurley, Chair of Wexford Naturalist­s Field Club, will give a talk about biodiversi­ty conservati­on on Thursday, May 22, at 7 p.m., in Gorey Library.

This talk is to mark Internatio­nal Biodiversi­ty Day and will raise awareness, provide informatio­n and encourage considerat­ion of Ireland’s biodiversi­ty. All welcome, booking essential.

VTOS courses

The Vocational Training Opportunit­y Scheme (VTOS) for adult learners is now taking enrolments for September 2018 courses.

VTOS Further education courses are ideal for second chance adult learners over the age of 21 and not in employment.

VTOS is situated across from Gorey Library in the Gorey Adult Education Centre.

Wellbeing

Paul Brown will facilitate a wellbeing group in Gorey Library on Thursday, May 24. It will motivate and support people on their wellbeing journey and to encourage general discussion on re-wiring your life.

Polska Eire

Polska Eire Exhibition will take place in Gorey Library on Sunday, May 27, until Saturday, June 16.

The exhibition presents the beauty of the northern Kashubia region with special regard to the Gmina Puck region. This beautiful part of north Poland is characteri­sed by the sea, beaches, coastal landscape and amazing history.

Digital Skills

Gorey Library will facilitate a range of free digital skills training including basic computing, tablet and smartphone classes in May. To register interest in doing a course, contact Gorey Library on 053 94 21481.

Details will be passed on to the course facilitato­rs who will contact you directly regarding spaces and details of courses.

NWHS

North Wexford Historical Society summer tour will take place on Wednesday, May 23, at 8 a.m.

There will be a visit to National Gallery, National Museum, Dáil Eireann and Kildare Street area.

Resource

A carers support group will run the last Wednesday of every month in the Gorey Family Resource Centre at 10.30 a.m.

All welcome. These support groups are for carers of people who may suffer from dementia, mental health issues, physical disabiliti­es or who may fall under the autism spectrum also.

Jack and Jill

Jack and Jill Foundation have opened a shop in Gorey located at number 1, Main Street (old Toymaster).

The shop is open from Monday to Saturday, from 10 a.m., until 5.30 p.m., excluding the bank holidays.

They have a large range items for sale and are currently accepting donations of clothing, furniture and bric a brac.
