SPECTACULAR CAR SHOW THRILLS
THE sight of hundreds of cars shining on Wexford quay front for the Wexford Car Classic Club annual Spring Car Show was a sight to behold on the last weekend of April.
Since 2010 the club have been running a classic car show on the quays of New Ross on weekends in April, but this year they put the show on the road, moving to the county capital’s most scenic vista.
Wexford quays were filled with all car models from Austins to Mercedes and to Hondas to Porsches.
The club’s good friends from Wales made a very welcome return visit to Wexford, bringing 50 cars to the quays as they took part in their Celtic charity classic tour.
People who came along enjoyed river activities as the club joined forces with the RNLI Wexford Lifeboat station, while other beneficiaries from this year’s show include Wexford Marine Watch and Wexford Women’s Refuge.
On the Sunday, around 200 motorists took part in the Spring Challenge charity drive, with the first car away at 11.30 a.m. travelling north to Gorey via Curracloe, Blackwater, Kilmuckridge, Ballygarrett, Riverchapel and arriving at the Amber Springs Hotel (where a car show was held). Leaving the Amber Springs Hotel for Enniscorthy via Ballycanew, Harrow, Boleyvogue, Ballyedmond,Ballaghkeen and Clonroche before finishing at Corcoran’s pub in New Ross.
Ireland’s rally legend Rosemary Smith drove a very special Opel Monza in the dealer Opel team Ireland livery driven on the famous Circuit of Ireland International rally in the 1980s.
Event organiser Ger Kielthy said: ‘The challenge brought a great mixture of cars with around 200 taking part in the 100 mile coastal drive as we headed north from Wexford quays. It was another great event by Wexford Sports and Classic Car Club.’
