UNEMPLOYMENT IN COUNTY WEXFORD IS DOWN TO 10,000
THE NUMBER of people unemployed in County Wexford at the end of 2017 was 10,206, according to Labour Force Survey figures released by the Central Statistics Office,
The figure, which represented a decrease of 2,433 compared to the same period the previous year, was the total number of people on the Live Register across the county for Quarter 4, 2017. Perhaps unsurprisingly, with 3,464 people unemployed, Wexford town had the highest number of people out of work in the county.
New Ross had the lowest number of unemployed at 1,779 while the figures recorded for Enniscorthy and Gorey were 2,682 and 2,281 respectively.
There was an overall 3.1 per cent increase in employment across the country by the end of the year with the total number of people in employment standing at 2,231,000.
According to the CSO report it was the 22nd quarter in succession that recorded a decrease in the number of people out of work.
The breakdown in the figures relating to County Wexford was composed of: Enniscorthy: Males under 25 (197), Males 25-and-over (1,343), females under 25 (154), females 25-and-over (154); Gorey: Males under 25 (144), Males 25-and-over (1,042), females under 25 (101), females 25-and-over (994); New Ross: Males under 25 (127), Males 25-and-over (842), females under 25 (106), females 25-and-over (704); Wexford town: Males under 25 (248), Males 25-and-over (1,740), females under 25 (166) and females 25-and-over (1,310).
