ICA talent at the forefront
THE HORSE and Hound, in Ballinaboola, was packed to capacity last week for the final of the County ICA Has Got Talent competition.
The event took place on Wednesday and 16 acts performed to a very high standard giving the adjudicators, Mary Doyle and Jane Spratt, a very busy time.
They also gave them a headache in trying to decide a winner. The prizes included five fantastic pieces from Paul Maloney Pottery which were presented to the top five contestants on the night by the ICA Federation President, Deirdre Connery,
After some deliberation the two judges finally decided on a winner in the form of solo singer, Michelle Donohoe, from Castlebridge, who gave a fantastic rendition of ‘Crazy’, which went down a storm with the audience.
In complete contrast, although they were equally as popular with the crowd, Adamstown Novelty Act finished in second place with their production of ‘Teething Problems’, by Sheila Delaney.
A group of singers from Castlebridge took home third prize with a brilliant version of ‘I Can’t Help Falling In Love With You’.
Self-taught mouth organ player, Billie O’Donnell, from Taghmon, was fourth with her rendition of ‘The Town I Loved So Well’ while fifth place went to Duncannon Group Singers who performed, ‘Boom Bang A Bang’.
The adjudicators thanked all of the participants and highlighted how tough it was to decide on a top five. They also acknowledged the fact that a large number of guilds were represented on the night including Ballyanne, Cushinstown, Camross, Wexford town, Monaseed, Taghmon, Duncannon, Castlebridge and Adamstown.
The audience was also commended on the night for showing great support and encouragement to all of the participants.
The ICA’S Got Talent competition is one of the most eagerly anticipated events on the organisation’s annual calendar and its increasing popularity among members all over Wexford was underlined by the level of support it received this year throughhout the county.
