Local wheelchair charity features in magazine

-

THE Irish Wheelchair Association on Pearse Street in Gorey got a great mention last week in magazine Spoke Out.

Volunteer Betty Clancy moved to Gorey town four years ago and joined the charity shop, as she thought it would be a great way of meeting people.

Betty said in her interview she moved from Greystones to the picturesque countryside town of Gorey when her husband retired in 2014. She loves volunteering as it feels good to give something back to society, and knowing she is helping a valuable organisation really makes it feel worthwhile.

Shop Supervisor Michelle Whelan said it was such an honour to have a piece written about the shop and to hear such nice things.

‘I want to thank Betty, she is a valuable team member and is part of our family here now,’ said Michelle.

On a day-to-day basis, Betty sorts through the different donations, decides what goes where, makes sure everything is labelled, dress the windows, and deals with the customers.

Betty said she would recommend anyone to become a volunteers as it opens up a whole new community and is a great way to meet and interact with people.

The Irish Wheelchair Shop in Gorey is opened Monday to Saturday, from 10 a.m., until 5 p.m. They accept and collection donations of clothes, furniture and bric-a-brac. For more information, call Michelle on 085 8084172 or visit the Facebook page ‘IWA Charity Shop Gorey’.
