122-YEAR-OLD CUP PRESENTED TO GOREY SHOW
A 122-YEAR-OLD Perpetual Cup has been presented to the Gorey Agricultural Show committee for this year’s event.
The Gorey Agricultural Show is one of the longest running in Ireland, which is an achievement in itself. It will take place on Saturday, June 16, in Clonattin.
At the launch, David Bolger Senior presented the WJ Moore Perpetual Cup to president of Gorey Agricultural Show Lorcan Allen. Mr Bolger found the cup while going through a box of unwanted items at his home. The cup was brought to a restoration expert who said it was handmade in London in 1896 and is highly crafted.
Mr Bolger said it is unclear what the cup was used for in the past, but he believes it may have been for show jumping.
The Gorey Agricultural Show committee would like to thank Mr Bolger for the presentation, and will allocate the Cup to a class at the Show.
This year there will be great entertainment all day on the stage from band Theresa & The Stars, singer Louise Morrissey and The Thunderbirds. Dancing with Declan will be there too, putting folks through their steps all day.
Commercial Director from Wright Insurance Brokers, who are the main sponsor, John McHugh said the Gorey Agricultural Show is a unique event that brings together a cross section of the local community including those involved in the agri and equestrian sectors, business owners and Gorey residents.
All throughout the Show Field there will be various competitions on the day such as horse showing, pony games, and cattle classes. For the dog lovers, there will be a show starting at 2 p.m. and entry can be made on the day. ‘A new initiative this year will be the Poultry Section,’ added Stella.
Stella said they are currently looking for volunteers to assist on the day. Fore more information, contact Stella on 0876383357.
