Fox Cub strides away to win
THERE WAS an eight-race card on offer at Enniscorthy Greyhound Track on Thursday night featuring the four first round heats of the Burgess Brandy Bitch Sweepstake, and some very good runs were recorded.
Heat one saw the Seán Furlong-owned and trained Fox Cub make a quick exit from her trap four draw.
She was always going to be hard to beat after that, and so it proved as she strode away to score by four and a half lengths in a good 29.16, her sixth career win.
Heat two saw another good break decide the outcome as Aclamon Fab made it third time lucky. This was only her third start and she ran out a snug three and a half length winner for Enniscorthy man Patrick Gordon. Her time was 29.44.
Heat three saw the early pace of Telex Brat help her lead to the corner, and she ran on well to hold Tomahurra Ruby by one and a half lengths for young owner Aaron Butler and trainer Anton Butler in a time of 29.06.
This was her fourth win from only seven starts.
Heat four saw the quickest run of the first round as the ‘Shanks’ Whelan-owned Piercestown Inch blasted from traps to lead and ran out a clear three-length winner in a fast 28.79 to record her fourth race win from twelve starts.
The second round (semi-finals) will be run this Saturday, June 16, at the Enniscorthy Credit Union gala race night, with free tickets on offer for this great night out for all the family.
Barntown greyhound enthusiast George Roche has been very generous with his sponsorship, and on Monday night there was no less than three finals sponsored by him.
The feature, the Fawn Tango Unraced stake, went to Kilkenny owner/trainer Michael Bergin as his Cill Dubh Chief made good use of his better draw in trap three to lead and ran out a very good winner in a fast 28.89.
