PRIMARY SCHOOL CHILDREN SING WITH ANÚNA IN OPERA HOUSE
PUPILS from four County Wexford primary schools took part in a singing workshop conducted by Lucy Champion and Zachary Trouton from the famous vocal ensemble Anúna at the National Opera House.
A total of 30 children from each of the following schools - Bunscoil Loreto, Gorey; Oylegate National School; Danescastle National School, Wellingtonbridge and Scoil Eoin Baiste, Enniscorthygot the chance to work with Anúna as part of the group’s education programme and the Anúna International Summer School.
Lucy and Zach worked on a piece called ‘Jerusalem’ from Anúna’s repertoire with children from each of the four schools who then gathered in the National Opera House to sing the piece on stage with summer school participants and singers from Anúna.
The performance involved a total of 120 children aged between 8 and 12 years who sang along with 50 adults and students from the summer school aged from 14- 60 years.
Now in its sixth year, the Anúna Summer School brings together experienced singers and choral directors from all over the world to work on Anúna’s repertoire and to engage in their method of singing unconducted.
Other workshops and lectures also take place including Sean Nós singing and dancing.
Aproximately 15 nationalities were represented at this year’s Summer School including Australia, Italy, Germany, USA, Scotland, China, Israel, Finland, Sweden, Spain, Netherlands, Canada, Japan, Argentina and Ireland.
