Spills, thrills and funds for MRI campaign!

-

A GROUP of 15 staff members from Permanent TSB branches in Wexford and Gorey gave up their June Bank Holiday Saturday to complete a 50km cycle from Gorey to Wexford, to raise funds for the MRI Now campaign.

The group left from the TSB branch in Gorey on the Saturday morning and arrived at their finishing point, at Wexford General Hospital, at around 4 p.m. The route took them from Gorey through Camolin and Ferns, where they stopped for a break, and on to Enniscorthy where they stopped at the Riverside Park Hotel for a breather in the warm weather!

Sabrina Furlong, one of the cyclists, said they had begun training for the event about two months beforehand but most of the group hadn’t been on a bike for 20 years! She remarked that while they had two fallers en route, everyone made it through safe and sound. She said: ‘It was a fantastic day and we had great time. We cheered each other on, we were singing as we cycled at one point! I think we were all excited to see the two months’ training come to fruition, but there are a few hills on that route that you wouldn’t notice when you’re in a car!’

The group finished off their day in the Crown Bar with a few well-earned refreshments.

Ms Furlong said they had thoroughly enjoyed the experience and hoped to embark on other fundraising initiatives in the future and thanked their many sponsors for their support.
