Duo Amanda and Ben cook up a storm at Parent and Toddler group

- By SARA GAHAN

Gorgeous smells filled Craanford Community Centre last week as duo Amanda and Ben Anderson from Little Blue Cow Cakes Monaseed gave a very insightful cookery demonstration that had many mouths watering.

The demonstration was organised by the Craanford/Monaseed Parent and Toddler Group and the theme was focused around Infants and Toddlers. Each of the dishes were tailored towards parents who want to cook something simple, yet healthy and delicious.

Amanda and Ben cooked up a storm with dishes such as a homemade tomato sauce, pizza ring, chicken tikka, simple naan bread, stuffed potatoes, and some chocolate-chip cookies. The 15 adults and 20 kids enjoyed the morning of tasting nutritious food, and ended the day with a crunchie cake as dessert.

Eve Byrne, who is a co-founder of the group, said the cookery demonstration would not have been possible only for the help through the Parent and Toddler Initiative Grant 2017, administered by Wexford Community Childcare.

‘We spend the money on training days such as this one,’ said Eve. ‘During the year we had a morning of reflexology, first aid care, day trips and much more.’

She added they have received great support from the Craanford/Monaseed Playschool Committee. The Group has come along way and grown from strength to strength since setting up over a year ago.

‘I remember beginning the group with Sarah McCormack, Niamh Doyle and Margaret McDonald,’ said Eve. ‘All we had was a box of toys between the six who came to visit us.’

The Parent and Toddler Group, which takes place every fortnight, now has over 15 continuous members. ‘It is about letting the children meet each other before they start preschool and a support for parents,’ added Eve.

The cost is €3 per family, and includes refreshments for parents and toast, buns and juice for the kids.

The Parent and Toddler Group has come to an end for the summer, but will be in September. Eve said they are always looking for new members. For more information, call Eve on 0876103624.
