Stay safe in the sun this year

- WITH CLAIR WHITTY

WHEN you spend time in the sun do you tan easily or burn to a crisp? Do you get itchy, prickly skin rashes? Do you break out in lumps and bumps, or get covered in insect bites? You don’t have to be abroad for these things to happen, they can happen at home too, at least this year they could! You’re not alone–lots of people have these problems and here are some solutions.

For many of you the prickly, itchy rashes are caused by the heat of the sun, while others are sensitive to the ingredients in the sunscreen they use. Many people take A.Vogel Urtica/Nettle, drops or Nettle capsules before and during the holiday to prevent this problem and they find them effective. Urtica/nettle is a natural anti-histamine.

If sunscreen is causing the itchy rash then change your sunscreen to a more natural product.

The brand that works for me, as I am prone to breaking out in blotchy itchy patches if I don’t use it, is Green

People Sun

Screen. I find this one works extremely well.

If you’re unlucky and you get bitten when on holiday, or indeed in your own back garden, try High B1

Complex. At home take it once a day throughout the season, customers find this works really well. For holidays combine it with a high strength garlic supplement. Take both for a week or two before the holiday and throughout to ensure you keep the bugs away.

Nobody intends to get sunburnt, at least I hope they don’t. I think we all know someone who has managed to scald themselves.

Aloe Vera is great to cool and soothe the skin. If you’re in pain then you can mix one or two drops of Lavender essential oil with the Aloe in the palm of your hand. You’ll need to apply a couple it of times as the hotter the skin is the quicker it will soak in.

Lavender is also great to soothe itchy bites, cuts, and bruises. Dabbed behind the ears and on the ankles it may keep the bugs away. Rubbed into your temples it may help you get a good night’s sleep.

Keep your skin hydrated inside and out. Drink plenty of water or coconut water.
