Roche’s classic ‘Belfry’ kicks off summer season

GOREY Little Theatre is gearing up for the first of their annual summer plays.

‘Belfry’ by Billy Roche, directed by Michael Dunbar, will run every Tuesday and Thursday in July at 8.30 p.m.

The summer season at the theatre will be launched by playwright himself Billy Roche at the theatre on Tuesday, July 3, at 7.30 p.m., with a wine reception, music and a photograph­ic exhibition by Gorey Camera Club.

Guests will get to view some fascinatin­g images captured by members of the Gorey Camera Club before they get to enjoy the show when curtain rises at 8.30 p.m.

The cast includes Andy Doyle as Artie; Catherine Stafford as Angela; Alex Murphy as Dominic; Niall McGrath as Donal; and Brendan Redmond as Father Pat.

The production team include: set design by Mark Redmond; set constructi­on by Mark Redmond; lighting by Ciaran Doyle; sound by Colin Doran and Finbarr Brennan; costumes by Louise Forde and Marie Collings; props by Ann May and Cathy Quirke; publicity by Karen Dunbar and Clara Carter; programme by Clara Carter; backstage crew is Mary Morris, Ann May and Cathy Quirke.

Set in a church vestry and belfry, ‘Belfry’ is a romantic comedy about a bell-ringing sacristan, a meek and mild bachelor who falls in love with another man’s wife.

Admission is €13 at the box office on the night. The Duck Restaurant, The Kitchen, Eco, Katie Daly’s and The Coach House are doing dinner and theatre ticket options too.
