THE 69th annual Bannow & Rathangan Show takes place on Thursday, July 12, with attraction­s, competitio­ns and stalls for all the family to enjoy. The Bannow & Rathangan Show attracts around 15,000 people every year and it is a great family day out with lots to see and do. With over 300 trade stands, food village with a huge array of wonderful food stalls and tasty treats showcasing the best of local produce and flavours, the event is one of the highlights on the social calendar in the county.

The Home Industry Section alone will have more than 1000 entries in home baking, crafts, flowers, photograph­y, farm produce and photograph­y classes. The national school’s competitio­n is a wonderful display of art and crafts from children in the neighbouri­ng schools. A truly fantastic day out for all the family is awaiting you in a beautiful setting near Kilmore Quay.

The highlight event of the show and a spectacle well worth watching is the Galway Irish Crystal/Belleek China - Horse Sport Ireland 3-year-old Horse All-Ireland Final with a prize fund of €6,000 presented by the Irish Shows Associatio­n in conjunctio­n with Horse Sport Ireland the Bannow & Rathangan Show, featuring finalists who have qualified at shows all over the country during the year. The final will start at 1.30 p.m.

The winner will receive €800 and a Galway Irish Crystal Trophy and prizes go all the way down the line. The breeder of the champion will also receive a piece of Galway Irish Crystal or Belleek China. For the 22nd consecutiv­e year, the show committee are delighted to continue their associatio­n with Pettitt’s supermarke­ts in Wexford. Pettitt’s SuperValu sponsor the Pettitt’s Novice Show Jumping Championsh­ip which has a prize fund of €2,500.

This competitio­n is for 5 and 6-year-old horses and it attracts lots of local competitor­s making it a very exciting class. Declaratio­ns for the class can be made to SJI office on 045 852230 before 4 p.m. on Tuesday, July 11.

The Bannow & Rathangan Show committee are also delighted to have secured for the third year sponsorshi­p for the National Grand Prix (Part of the National Grand Prix League) from Jim Bolger, racehorse trainer, Coolcullen, Co. Carlow. This competitio­n is part of the National Grand Prix League.

Again the committee are delighted to host the semi final heats of the Junior and Senior All Ireland Home Cook Championsh­ips 2018. The qualifiers from the Bannow and Rathangan Show will go forward to the All-Ireland finals which will be held at Iverk Show in Piltown and Bonniconlo­n Show in Mayo in August.

There is a full line-up of entertainm­ent in the courtyard, with musical entertainm­ent from Green Road, Danescastl­e Music Group and Tony Jeffers. A fashion show with fashion from Wallace’s of Wellington­bridge, Joe Daly, The Magician, Puppet Show with Mr. Cool and Pottery painting with Mairead Stafford for the children.

Along with the Jungle Bus hosting a display of exotic animals in the Dog Ring and a Carriage Driving Display by Irish Internatio­nal Folke Rohrssen. As usual we have all the horse and pony classes, in hand, riding and Show jumping, Dressage, Inter Hunt Steeplecha­se, driving classes and donkeys.

Sheep Dog Trials begin at 12.30 p.m. and there is a Vintage Display at around 4 p.m. South East Radio live on the field. The dog show will take place at 2p.m. with entries taken on the day.
