Timber event explores forestry’s potential
A TALKING Timber event organised by Teagasc in County Wexford focussed attention on maximising the potential of forestry.
The event took place in the Brandon House Hotel, New Ross, and was attended by senior figures within the organisation including John Spink, Head of Crop Research, Nuala Ni Flaharta, Head of the Forestry Department, and Frances McHugh.
Robert Windle, from the National Forest Service, Jim Hurley, from Euro Forest Ireland, and Trevor McHugh, from the Irish Forestry and Forest Products Association (IFFPA), were also among those who attended the event.
The seminar was one of a series of ‘talking timber’ initiatives being organised by Teagasc as part of its Forestry Development Department’s programme of marketing events.
The aim was to give forest owners who have timber to sell the opportunity to liaise with potential buyers, harvesting contractors and other foresters.
A number of topics were covered at the event with information provided on how to be market-ready and research statistics relating to thinning and harvesting.
Information from case studies relating to private forest sales was also presented to those in attendance. An outdoor IFFPA presentation of log and timber products also took place.
