Motorist banned for three years
A YOUNG man who crashed into an electricity pole at Tomgarrow, Wells, Gorey, on April 14 last appeared before the District Court last week charged with drink driving. Eoin Whelan (23) of 6 Doire Moling, Monamolin, pleaded guilty to the charge which saw him return a sample measuring 75mg of alcohol per 100ml of breath - a measurement in the three year ban category. Solicitor Lana Doherty said that her client was currently in college in Cork and was due to finish next year and that the loss of his licence would have a major impact on his employment opportunities. She said that Whelan had made a ‘serious error of judgement and could offer no excuse’.
‘He’s obviously a decent young man,’ said Judge Staunton. ‘He made an error of judgement and unfortunately, he will have to pay for it. I’ll limit the fine to €100, but I must disqualify him for three years.’
