TAEKWONDO CLUB ARE OFF TO UK FOR WORLD CHAMPIONSHIPS
The excitement is building for members of The Leinster Taekwondo Club who are off to Birmingham this month to compete in the International World Championships.
A total of 46 members are currently preparing for the championship which takes place on Saturday, July 21, and Sunday, July 22. Head Instructor Tom Thornton said this is the biggest group he has ever taken to the event so far.
The Taekwondo clubs, which operate in Gorey, Riverchapel, Arklow and Enniscorthy, first competed in the championship in 2013 with a team of seven. ‘In 2016 we brought over 11 members,’ said Tom. ‘It is up to us who we bring and who we think it ready for that level of a competition.’
The youngest team member travelling to Birmingham is just seven-years old and the oldest is over 40.
‘This is some of our members third time to go on the trip,’ said Tom. They are excited to go over and bring back some medals.’
Tom said they would like to thank their sponsors 708 agency, hrdept.ie, Positive Equity, HSM Tour security, Coral Leisure Arklow, FHM Accountants Gorey and O’Leary Financial Management.
‘I would also like to thank all of the parents and students for their help, support, and hard-work,’ added Tom.
The Leinster Taekwondo Club always welcome new members. For more information call Tom on 0863862020 or Caroline O’Sullivan on 087 6721843.
