OVERWHELMING SUPPORT FOR JANGO FLEMING’S CHARITY

-

TESCO Gorey was a hive of activity on Saturday for the family fun day in aid of Colin ‘Jango’ Fleming’s chosen charity Aoibheann’s Pink Tie.

Local celebrities such as senior hurler Conor MacDonald, heavyweight boxer Niall ‘Basil’ Kennedy and former Ireland soccer star Paul McGrath made an appearance to help raise money for the worthy cause.

Aoife Parle, a staff member from Tesco, held the fun day, which included a bake sale, facepainting, bag pack and a raffle, and managed to raise a total of €4,230 for the national children’s cancer charity. She said she would like to thank all the people of Gorey for coming along to the event.

‘I am overwhelmed at the amount of support from people,’ said Aoife. ‘It really shows what kind of a man Colin is.’

Colin, who was diagnosed with acute myeloid leukaemia in April, was told devastating news last month that he only had a few weeks to live.

As a result, the father of three made a charity pledge in aid of Aoibheann’s Pink Tie. He set up an ‘everydayhero’ page and raffled off his three-day Electric Picnic ticket. The 37-year old attended the festival every year. Up until 2014, it was always with his cousin Laura but tragically the young mother of three passed away in August 2015 from lung cancer.

So far, Colin has raised €26,175, including the €4,230, for Aoibheann’s Pink Tie.

Aoife said she would like to thank everyone who donated to the charity, to those who sponsored raffle prizes and to the staff at Tesco Gorey.
