St Patrick’s Day Parade’s future in doubt ahead of EGM
The future of the St Patrick’s Day Parade in Gorey is looking bleak if a larger committee is not assembled by early next year.
A special EGM meeting will be held next week to discuss the future of the St Patrick’s Day Parade in Gorey, and all are being asked to attend in order to help save the Gorey parade.
As a small committee, they have two major concerns that have brought them to question their involvement in the Gorey Parade. The first is the health and safety conditions that need to be met to secure the safe running of the parade and their personal liability should any incident happen. They have approached Wexford County Council in relation to these issues. The other is the need for more creativity in the Gorey Parade, In recent years they have just focused getting the parade down the town safely and the creative aspect has been neglected.
The parade committee are encouraging the people of Gorey to attend the meeting on Tuesday, September 25, at 8 p.m., in the Loch Garman Arms. They will discuss who can help with ideas for creative development of the parade and also get entrants to commit to providing stewards for the duration of the Gorey parade.
Committee member Claire Urquhart said they are very proud but need help and it is vitally important that a representative from a business, organisation, or group come along to the meeting.
