Gorey Active Retirement meet in the Loch Garman Arms on Fridays from 11 a.m. until 1 p.m.

All welcome to attend to find out about the organisati­on and its activities.

There will be a tea dance in Carlow on September 23. The cost is €35 per person.

The transport pick up will be from Ashdown Park Hotel, at 11.15 a.m. with lunch at 1 p.m.

Dancing will start at 2.30 p.m. A tea dance will be held on October 14, in the Rhu Glen Hotel. Price is €35 including transport and meal. Please pay John in the Loch Garman Arms on Friday.

There will be an evening of dog racing in Shelbourne Park on October 18.

The price of €45 includes three course meal, race card and transport.

The usual activities of bowls, darts, walk, Go for Life, art, Irish are on every week.

Please pay annual membership as soon as possible to make sure you are insured when participat­ing in any activity, break, trip or holiday.

Scrabble Club

Scrabble Club will return on Tuesday, September 18, in Gorey Library, at 7 p.m.

An Introducti­on to Entreprene­urship and Lean Start up Principles with Catherine Duggan will take place in Gorey Library for four weeks over September and October.

Bully proof

Bully Proof Kids with Stella O’Malley will take place in Gorey Library, on Thursday, September 20, at 7 p.m.

This talk offers concrete strategies to empower children and teenagers to deal confidentl­y with bullying and dominant characters.

Stella also presents some useful tips to parents when dealing with cyber bullying.

Culture night

Comhaltas branch CCÉ Gorey/ Ballygarre­tt will be performing in Gorey Library, on Friday, September 21, from 4 p.m. as part of the Culture Night festivitie­s.

All are welcome to attend this free event which promises to be a fantastic showcase of traditiona­l music.

Gorey Churches Together Ladies Breakfast will take place on Saturday, September 22, from 8.30 a.m. for 9 a.m. sharp in the Ashdown Park Hotel. Tickets are €12.50.

Book launch

Minister Michael D’Arcy will launch Carina McEvoy’s book ‘Sometimes I worry... how about you?’ in Gorey Library, on Tuesday, September 25, at 7 p.m.

The book is aimed at guiding children and parents in managing childhood anxiety.

Book club

Page Turners Book Club resumes in Gorey Library, on Tuesday, September 25, at 3.30 p.m. New members are always welcome. Page Turners is suitable for 9 to 12 year olds.

The choice for September is ‘Return to the Secret Garden’ by Holly Webb. Plenty of copies on order in the library.

Poetry

Gorey Writers Group in associatio­n with Crow Duo will provide an evening of performed poetry readings with musical accompanim­ent.

NWHS

The North Wexford Historical Society lectures commence on Friday, September 28, in the Methodist Church Hall, Market Square, at 7.30 p.m.

There will be a lecture from Dr Ida Milne from Carlow College on the influenza epidemic (Spanish flu) that decimated Europe at the end of World War 1.

The talk will deal with how north Wexford fared during the worst flu pandemic the world has ever known.

Please note for this night the group have changed venue from the library and switched to a Friday night.

Truckers

The East Coast Night Truck Run in aid of Laura Lynn will take place on October 6, at 7 p.m.

All participan­ts will begin from County Grounds, Aughrim, to Arklow, then through Gorey, on to Carnew and back to Aughrim.

The run is in memory of baby Luke Traynor O’Loughlin who sadly passed away last year.

Musical

Gorey Musical Society’s show for this year will be ‘Calamity Jane’.

Auditions will take place on Saturday, October 13, from 7 p.m., until 10 p.m. in the Masonic Hall.

Rehearsals will begin early November.

Bibi Baskin

There will be an evening with Bibi Baskin on Tuesday, October 23, at 7.30 p.m. in the Ashdown Park Hotel.

Bibi is an motivation­al speaker and former TV and radio presenter.

This is a wonderful opportunit­y to hear from Bibi about life, wellness, wisdom, stress management and much more.

She will talk about how her threeweek holiday to India lasted 15 years and how she embraced and learned so much from the Indian culture which she now applies to her life and shares with others.

There will be a Q&A session afterwards.

Coffee day

Gorey Bowls

Gorey Bowls Club AGM was held last week in Loch Garman Arms amongst current members.

Following on from the AGM, the club is looking to recruit new members to join the Gorey Bowls team.

Chess Club

Gorey Chess Club meet every Monday at 7 p.m. in the Loch Garman Arms. The club caters for both casual and competitiv­e players. Players of all standards including beginners are very welcome. Please ask for Seamus on arrival.

Resource

A carers support group will run the last Wednesday of every month in the Gorey Family Resource Centre at 10.30 a.m. All are welcome to take part.

These support groups are for carers of people who may suffer from dementia, mental health issues, physical disabiliti­es or who may fall under the autism spectrum also.

RNLI

The new and improved Courtown RNLI shop is located on the North Pier in Courtown.

It is opened seven days a week. Monday to Wednesday from 12.30 p.m. until 4.30 p.m., Thursday and Friday from 10 a.m. until 5 p.m. and Saturday and Sunday from 2 p.m. until 5 p.m.

Toddler time

Toddler Storytime will take place in Gorey Library on Tuesday mornings at 11 a.m.

Plenty of fun is guaranteed and everyone is welcome.

Parents/carers should supervise their toddlers at all times in the Library.

Digital skills

Gorey Library is facilitati­ng a range of free digital skills training including basic computing, tablet and smartphone classes.

Please ask the library staff for details of the course providers.

As part of the Digital Skills for Citizens Programme Age Action plan to facilitate one-to-one training starting on November 5.
