Jamie John points way as Bunclody win derby

- BRIAN CARTY in St. Patrick’s Park

HWH-BUNCLODY 1-15 M’TOWN-C’DOCKRELL 0-4

THE ASSURED score-taking of Jamie John Murphy ensured that HWH-Bunclody secured a straighforward 1-15 to 0-4 victory over Marshalstown-Castledockrell in Sunday’s Enniscorthy Farm Systems Junior ‘A’ football championship quarter-final at sunny St. Patrick’s Park.

The Carlow border side dictated proceedings on their own terms from first whistle to last, and gradually developed a 0-5 to nil lead after twelve minutes, all from the trusty boot of Murphy, including three frees.

Colm Quigley opened Marshalstown-Castledockrell’s account when found by a quick free, while Francis Reck was drawn into action to deny Frank Kelly at the start of the second quarter.

Quigley also saw another halfgoal opportunity hit the side-netting from the last attack of the half. But Marshalstown-Castledockrell’s chances were few and far between otherwise on a day when HWH-Bunclody marched into the last four without any real test of their credentials.

James Moorhead made it 0-6 to 0-1 shortly before hobbling off injured, and a lofted effort from play by Murphy, plus a point apiece from Darren Murphy and Paul Finn, opened up a 0-10 to 0-2 lead by half-time.

Murphy (two) and Frank Kelly traded frees in the early stages of the second-half before HWH-Bunclody were awarded a penalty on 39 minutes for a deliberate footblock.

Veteran full-forward Paul Finn confidently tucked away the spotkick, and it was plain sailing for the leaders thereafter.

They only added three more points to their tally before the end, with the Murphys, Darren and Jamie John (two, one free), doing the needful. HWH-Bunclody now are only two victories away from ultimate glory, and will battle it out with Adamstown, Our Lady’s Island and Sarsfields.
