Roaming fills the hero’s role

Favourite wins grand prize by three and a half lengths

-

THE GEORGE’S Hair Designs grand prize final was the feature race of the week at Enniscorthy Greyhound Track on Thursday, and favourite backers were happy as Roaming Hero scored a convincing win in the end.

After seeing off early leader Jacobs Deed by the third bend, Hero went away to beat I’m The Daddy by three and a half lengths in a good 28.98.

Trainer John Codd, who handles the runner-up, had better luck in the open sprint race four when Our Decision, owned by Francis Kent, put in a very good performance when recording a fast 18.64, beating Jojo On Air by three and a half lengths.

Unfortunately, John had no luck up in Newbridge as his Cushie Jet got a bad knock at the first bend in the €10,000 Texacloth Juvenile derby final.

He put in a monumental effort to close to two lengths off the winner after being some ten to twelve lengths behind off the second bend.

Shelbourne Park could well be his next objective in the upcoming Dublin Coach Juvenile derby, and maybe it will be third time lucky for Cushie Jet.

There was an Enniscorthy connection to the winner, Ulysses, who had won his first three races at the track.

Grand prize sponsor George Roche of Barntown got some of his money back when his Headford Iso won the final of the Derby Nights Out stake, getting the better of Fairly Hazy by a length in 29.26.

It was his eleventh race success from 31 starts.
