Buffers Alley edge past Glynn-Barntown in U15 hurling semi
IT WAS the turn of the Under-15s of the county last weekend as both Gorey Guardian football and Enniscorthy Guardian hurling championship semi-final matches were played across the grades.
The big game came in the Premier hurling championship where Buffers Alley edged past Glynn-Barntown (3-12 to 3-10) in a thriller to make the title decider.
They will have to wait for a while for an opponent, with Faythe Harriers and Fethard yet to resolve their quarter-final replay, and Naomh Eanna awaiting the winners in the last four.
There was a pair of interesting semi-finals in Roinn 1 too. Horeswood went goal crazy to get the better of Rathnure in a belter of a game (6-15 to 5-11), and in the final they will meet Shelmaliers, victors over Oulart-The Ballagh on Sunday morning.
The Roinn 1 shield final was also set and, interestingly, the fifth place finishers in both groups have kept that form going and will meet in the decider.
Oylegate-Glenbrien beat Ferns St. Aidan’s by 2-6 to 0-7, while Askamore proved too strong for St. James’ (1-14 to 1-9).
Over in the Gorey Guardian football championship, Clúain O’Rahilly’s are through to the Roinn 1 final after they edged Monageer-Boolavogue by 0-13 to 1-8.
They will meet either HWH-Bunclody or St. Anne’s in the final, with the Rathangan boys beating Davidstown-Courtnacuddy in the quarters last week.
In Roinn 2, Duffry Rovers used their greater goal threat to blast their way past Cloughbawn. The Coolree side won by 4-7 to 0-8 and will come up against Taghmon-Camross in the final, themselves 7-6 to 3-6 winners against Castletown.
Bannow-Ballymitty proved their class in the Roinn 2 shield by driving past St. Patrick’s to reach the decider. Marshalstown-Castledockrell will provide their opposition after they got the better of Craanford.
Action bounces back to the Wexford People Minor and New Ross Standard Under-13 championships this weekend.
On Wednesday (St. Patrick’s Park, 7 p.m.), Kilrush take on St. James’ for the Division 3 Under-13 football title.
There are four more Under-13 finals at the weekend. On Saturday in Farmleigh, Glynn-Barntown take on Blackwater for the Division 1 shield (12.30 p.m.), while in Bree at the same time Adamstown meet Taghmon-Camross for the Division 5 shield.
