The Tailor and Ansty were a well-respected local married couple, who lived in the townland of Garrynapeaka near Gougane Barra.
Anastasia (1872-1947) was from this valley and the Tailor Buckley ‘Tim’ (1863-1945) was born in Kilgarvan in Co. Kerry and married into Ansty’s homeplace. He was a tailor, a well-known and much respected story teller and a conversationalist who conversed with many famous Irish writers and Gaelic scholars when they visited him in Garrynapeaka.
‘The Tailor and Ansty’ was written, unknown to the couple, by a regular visitor to their house, a journalist, Eric Cross, detailing many of the Tailors stories and everyday happenings in their lives. The book is full of entertaining stories and his presentation of the facts of rural life as the Tailor and Ansty knew them was accurate and valuable.

SOCCER NEWS
On Sunday, September 9, the Men’s ‘A’ team hosted Moyne Rangers in Luke Foran Park in Boolavogue. A foul inside the area resulted in a penalty, duly converted by Jamie Doyle giving us a 1-0 lead. Bobby Larkin between the posts was rarely troubled thanks to a sterling defence but near the break, the Moyne broke through and drew level. Brendan Burke gave us the lead with a fine header early in the second half and when the visitors were awarded a penalty it looked as if they would equalise. However, the shot never got past Bobby Larkin and Jake O’Brien finished a pass from Seán Roche for our third goal.
The ‘B’ squad were also in action and won by 5-1, beating Cushinstown comprehensively. James Sweeney scored twice, Ondrej Pavelka, Liam Walsh and Nathan Dickson added one apiece.
THE previous day, on Saturday the 8th, the Youths collected maximum points, beating Gorey Celtic by 3-2 and showing a welcome return to form after a disasterous start to their season. The game started well with Nathan Dickson and Liam Walsh coming close to scoring in the first 10 minutes. Liam was taken down in the area and Darragh Murphy gave the team the lead, converting the penalty.
Just before the break, even though we seemed to be in control, Gorey scored a great goal to leave the sides level at the interval. Immediately after the start, Liam Walsh, waltzed through the defence for a great goal. Gorey dug deep and scored a great header to leave the sides with two goals apiece.
It looked as if the game might finish level but Harry Ellix headed a Liam Walsh free for the goal of the game. Adam Meehan and Jack Whelan were the stars for our lads. wih Liam Walsh impressing up front.
